Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is getting a DS sequel, and it is another remake. Interestingly, Chunsoft chose to remake the second Game Boy Shiren game instead of the proper Nintendo 64 sequel to Shiren the Wanderer.
I suppose the source material doesn’t matter too much because Fushigi no Dungeon Fuurai no Shiren DS 2: Sabaku no Majou (Mystery Dungeon Shiren the Wanderer: Demon Castle in the Desert) will be new for North America if Sega chooses to localize this. I bet Sega will. Shiren is a franchise for Sega and Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer was the international introduction.
Sega hasn’t announced much in the way of new features for Shiren DS 2 aside from a minor novelty where you can share rescue points between Shiren 3 on the Wii and Shiren DS 2.

I’m glad to see all these Shiren games given a chance in the states. It’s good that players are slowly getting accustomed to them.
I tried playing the original and I just couldn’t get the hang of it. Still, I like how challenging games are making a comeback.
I hope so much this comes to America. Shiren series is incredible. Shiren the Wanderer is by far my most played DS game.

While there have been 5 Shiren games so far (counting originals and remakes of the same basic game as 1), this Shiren DS 2 bridges the story between the events of Shiren DS and Shiren 3. It isn’t clear, then, how Shiren 2 (N64) and Shiren Gaiden (DC) fit into the Shiren storyline.
