Looking at Line Rider on consoles

Recommended Videos

InXile announced a console version of Line Rider in late 2006. The game was supposed to come out on the Wii and DS last year and we heard nothing about it. Yesterday, I got a teaser CD with screenshots for Line Rider 2: Unbound as proof that it’s still in development. I still don’t have a lucid idea of how it controls, but the first screenshots outline some clues.

Pictures from the Nintendo DS version are on the top and this version naturally uses the touch screen for the drawing portions. Once Bosh is in motion the touch screen changes into play controls with pause and stop buttons. As seen in the screenshot below, the Wii version has all of the menu controls on the corners. I suppose the Wii version could have a button on demand heads up display, but the screenshot can’t communicate details like this. I think it’s pretty much assumed players will draw tracks by using the remote as a giant pencil.

Speaking of the tracks, Line Rider 2: Unbound has 40 puzzles in the game created by TechDawg. However, the lure of Line Rider has always been creating your own puzzles and sharing them with the internet. You will be able to do this with console game with the help of Nintendo Wi-Fi. It isn’t clear if there will be a user ranking system to sort through the scribbles or a way to distribute videos on top of puzzles.
