First person to buy MGS4 at Konami’s Hollywood launch can’t play it

At last night’s Metal Gear Solid 4 event in West Hollywood Louise and I briefly ran into the first two people to purchase the game at Konami’s event. They both got their copies autographed and hear David Hayter use his Solid Snake voice. Unfortunately, a few weeks earlier his PlayStation 3 was stolen. So even after waiting over twenty hours, starting from 2AM PST on July 10, he won’t see Snake’s final hours. Both of them still seemed pretty happy and later on they were invited to the press party loaded with free booze. We were with Mike McWhertor from Kotaku who remarked that the Gamestop next door was raffling a Metal Gear Solid PlayStation 3 bundle. The couple didn’t seem to care. They were more than elated with their signed copies of Metal Gear Solid 4.

A tale of two lines… these are people waiting to purchase the game next door at Gamestop.

It’s cool that you guys could go to a launch event, was there a big turnout? I was thinking of grabbing the game from Best Buy at midnight too, but then I need to work the next day and it’s not like I have time to play until Friday night or in the weekend.

Definitely awesome to have the legendary Snake sign your copy of the game. Both David Hayter and Otsuka Akio are great Snakes, I prefer Tanaka Hideyuki’s Otacon though. BTW, Liquid Ocelot would be voiced by Ocelot in the US version, while in the Jpn version he’s voiced by Liquid, since the Jpn actor for Ocelot, Totani Koji, passed away a couple of years ago.

Can’t wait to get my copy tmw, this has to be the best PS3 game yet.

@Aoshi00 - There was a long line of people at Best Buy, but I don’t even think all the people there experienced the “event”, which was really getting the game signed. I didn’t stay until closing, but game signing was supposed to end at 1AM. The line was much longer than the guest could serve if they left on time.

The funny thing was Gamestop was right next door competing with Konami with a smaller party.

Sounds crowded and lively. I wonder if those copies signed by David Hayter would turn up on ebay.

That’s funny, my local Best Buy is right next to Gamestop too, but I don’t know if that Gamestop opened for the midnight launch, since usually only stores in major cities do it.

My copy arrived today and I just finished the 8-min installation, this weekend is going to be busy!

I wonder if his PS3 was stolen by “that ninja.” ^_^

I managed to procure my copy of MGS4 a day before the street date, unfortunately the PS3 has been sold out in my state for the past few weeks, unknown to myself. So I had the game on June 11th and no console to play it on. Even worse was that there were going to be plenty of PS3s come June 12th, in a MGS4 bundle! So now I have two copies of the game.

I feel for those guys. ^_^
