Valkyria Chronicles extended with new episodes

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice isn’t the only strategy RPG to add scenarios with downloadable content. Sega is running a similar business model with Senjo no Valkyria, better known as Valkyria Chronicles internationally. In August, Sega will patch Japanese copies of the game for free to prepare them for a wave of downloadable content. It costs 300 yen ($2.80) to play through Valkyria Chronicles in Hard EX mode. Besides being harder than the existing hard difficulty, the Hard EX mode update includes new items and a free battle mode.

Edie’s side story costs 600 yen ($5.67), not a bad price for fully voiced story sequences and brand new battles. While Sega doesn’t mention any future downloadable content, Edie’s great battle strategy is probably the beginning of other story arcs. The question is if Sega will include these episodes as bonuses in the North American release or if they will adopt they will sell them at a later date.

Downloadable content on Japanese games always makes me feel uneasy. What if the localized version never sees these updates/additions. I don't feel comfortable buying these titles unless I know we get what the Japanese gamers get.
  • Nice. Maybe some future updates will give more Sega-inspired cameos.

Who wouldn't want an Ulala medic? Or some old-school Phantasy Star characters?

...Just keep Vectorman out of the equation. He belongs in the future.
