Mega Man 9, not just for WiiWare

Mega Man 9, not just for WiiWare imagesNintendo Power got the scoop on Mega Man 9, but the Blue Bomber isn’t limited to WiiWare. The USK disclosed Mega Man 9 will at least come to the Xbox 360 too. Xbox 360 Fanboy points out that the genre listed is “roleplaying”, an odd choice unless the USK is referring to Mega Man roleplaying as the other robots when he steals their weapons. The genre choice is probably an error, but the existence of a multiplatform Mega Man 9 probably isn’t.

The biggest question is if the Xbox 360 release and likely PlayStation 3 version will retain the NES feel in the WiiWare version. I can see Capcom selling two versions of Mega Man 9, the one we know about and a 2.5D version on other platforms. It’s a clever way to cash out on nostalgia and Mega Man fever.

Back and forth. Capcom can't seem to make up their minds. Is it multi-platform or not. This is silly. It is obvious it will probably be out for all three systems. This game could easily be done on all three systems and I doubt Capcom is stupid enough to pass up free cash. Still though, it would be nice for them to stop all the run around. Now the "real" question is, which of the three will you and I buy it for? I think I will go with PS3 since I can tolerate their DRM structure the best.

They have already mastered the art of cashing in with the Battle Network series. They created a game with a fun battle system, then proceeded to force sequels down our gullets.

Still, Gotta love the original Blue Bomber.

Kataztrophy, you also forgot that each sequel began coming out in 2 versions, too. Though I have a soft stop for that serious, gotta love it. ;)

I'll buy it for the PS3 (Once I get one...) or just try to get my Wii to stop being stupid and connect to my router.

I just like the fact that with PS3 it is not tied to the console per say but to an account much like the 360. You get downloads for five systems so you would have to be on your 6th ps3 before it would be a problem. Though with MS's new transfer kit it might not be much worse with them since you can do a license transfer once every 12 months. I have already had to deal with Nintendo and getting the licenses tranfered from one Wii console to another. It isn't fun. It shows the problem with the idea of attaching the DRM to a system instead of a user. Nothing is portable at all.

I don´t know...I think it´s a mistake... According to Ars Technica, Capcom themselves contacted them to clarify that is only slated for WiiWare at the moment, after they reported that it was going to be released on PSN and XBLA based on Capcom´s E3 roster (which according to Capcom, was a mistake).

And now, they have even reported the date for the game in Japan already, according to the latest issue of Famitsu:

I think that the game is at least, a timed exclusive. And maybe Capcom has another Mega Man game for 360/PS3 that is causing the confusion...I don´t know.

To be honest, I´m hoping that the game is a Wii exclusive for several reasons...but I don´t want to start a discussion, so I´ll just leave it at that.

Capcom and the word exclusive don't merge well together

    Exclusives are silly anyways.

    1. I don't see any legit reason for a publisher to make an exclusive unless they are paid off or if porting the game is unreasonable (from a time or technical standpoint), something that Mega Man 9 most certainly isn't. It is free money.

    2. The developer should be interested in getting its product on as many systems as possible to build its name and in some cases its royalties it may gain from the publisher(unless the game sucks, doubtful on this one).

    3. On the player side it really don't make much sense either unless it is fueled by some fanboy dreams or something. I may not be the biggest fan of the Wii but I would feel the same way if it was a 360 exclusive. I am an exception owning all three consoles. Most people don't own but one if that, it is stupid and selfish for fanboys to want to keep others from playing a game they might enjoy just to build their ego about their purchase.

In the end it makes no sense to anybody except to the platform publisher/developer. They really are the only one that benefits. It is better for everybody else involved to just make it multiplatform. This game has brand power, it will sell on any and all platforms, hell I even think it should be ported to the DS and PSP, it isn't like they can't handle it either.
