Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360. New Siren summon shown. No photography, sorry, but Lightning is there. A lot of it is cut from the TGS trailer. Will be available at launch in North America and Europe. Final Fantasy XIII Versus not shown. Lots of people are cheering.
Sorry no release date… meeting with Square Enix in a few minutes…
I suppose this is good news… as long as it IS multi-disc (as cutting from a max of 50GB to 9.6ish would be horrible…) and the over all game won’t suffer from it. Don’t much care for exclusitivity myself, as now more people can play the game and enjoy it.
On a side note, Wada-san’s english has left me wondering, but I don’t remember him mentioning “exclusive” anywhere in his talk about Star Ocean, even though he made a point of it for Last Remnant (this holiday anyway) and Infinite Undiscovery. Just as a point of curiosity, did anyone hear him mention it?
@Darrien - Infinite Undiscovery is an Xbox 360 exclusive since it’s done with a partnership with Microsoft. Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope has not been announced as exclusive or not.
@Spencer - Gotcha. That was what I wanted to know. No offense against Microsoft, but Star Ocean, for me, is just a game I’d rather have on PS3… Prolly got something to do with that whole “atmosphere and space” thing they were using as to the colors of the PS2 and the vertical stand when they first came out…
Be the same thing with FFXIII, but that’s mainly because I’ve played all the FFs first on the DualShock (except for 3, of course).
moneyhats, moneyhats… when will they stop?
I’m interested on how much money Microsoft had to pay, lol.
This was inevitable… it runs on a multiformat engine already, it’s gone hugely over budget and 360’s got a good worldwide lead over PS3. I expect it’ll release on PC too honestly, they’ll need as much userbase as they can get to recoup on FFXIII.
I bet Sony holds on to Versus though. Still, a real blow for them but probably not the last… just wait ’till MGS4S gets announced…
@jarrod - If you’re talking budgets, then releasing the game on PC would more than likely be horrible idea, considering the ease of piracy. S’why many companies are taking PC-only franchises and introducing them on consoles these days.
But seriously… I would not want MGS4 on the 360. It’s filling up a 50GB Blu-ray, which means 6 DVD-DLs (at 9.6 or so a piece) or else a ton of compression on the audio or reduction of video quality. In the end, I don’t really see it being worth it in any possible way. And even without that, your “S” at the end would imply a “Substance/Subsistence” type upgrade, which would increase the size required even more so. I’m not saying it won’t happen, mainly because I’m not Konami, but still, I really don’t understand why people still seem to think this is a good/great idea.
Comunism. Square-Enix are a bunch of traitors, first was SO 4 and now FF XIII.
Go to Hell S-E
So… the only thing worth caring about in the entirety of the Microsoft conference, was a multiplatform game…
Either way, I wonder how much microsoft payed for this. And how many discs this game will take.
@Darrien…
6 DVD-DLs… it actually isn’t as simple as that. MGS4 fills up a 50gb BluRay, but remember that the engine is only on the disc once. If you had to split the game into six discs, you would need to have the engine on each disc as well. Making it even more discs.
@Jaxel
You couldn’t just have players install the engine on the hard drive?
Yay! I’d been contemplating buying a PS3 just to be able to continue playing the FF series, since I’ve loved the others. Now I can stick with my 360 (at least for XIII). <3 (Now I can only hope Versus will make it to the 360 as well, heh!)
Putting mgs4 on 360 is like playing panzer dragoon saga. swap discs every hour.
did someone mention that ff13 uses that much space anyway?
@Nabe… developers tend develop to the least common denominator. The PS3 has a built in HD, every single one, every single model. Because of this, developers know from the start that they can develop for hard drive support. However the 360’s hard drive is not standard, its not a common denominator. When developers program for the 360, they tend to shy away from hard drive requirements because not everyone has one, and they would be cutting off a large portion of the userbase by requiring it.
@Darrien
For a PC port, I’d expect Square to take the Capcom/EA/MGS route and deliver it half a year or so later… that way most of the hardcore already bought it on consoles anyway and they’ll likely get some double dips going for the inevitably superior PC rev. Last Remnant’s already doing this basically even.
As for MGS4… disc size is a pretty weak excuse that can be gotten around multiple ways (compression, installation, multiple discs, etc) and for a linear game like MGS4, it’s not even a real issue. Seriously, if that’s all that held MGS4 back originally, Sony’s mismanaging this gen worse than we all thought.
@jaxel
Microsoft just announced full HDD installation for 360 games. Banjo’s one of the first to use it, I don’t see why FFXIII wouldn’t?
@jarrod… you’re treading into First-Party territory now. First-Party is completely different from Third-Party.
@Jaxel
Game install’s going to be available for all developers, Banjo’s just the first mentioned to use it.
@jarrod… you haven’t been reading what I have been saying… Game installs have ALWAYS been available for the developers. But third party developers dont have the incentive to do so because hard drives are not a common denominator on the 360! Not everyone who has a 360 has a hard drive; so the majority of developers will not make games that require it… if they did so, they would be excommunicating a large portion of the 360’s market base.
@Jaxel
You’re not listening to me actually. This is a full game install, it runs entirely from the HDD, it’s a new feature. It’s not something that’s been done before on the platform and certainly wasn’t available before.
Besides, Square Enix obviously isn’t afraid of doing a HDD required 360 release given their first game was FFXI… and honestly, there’s likely more 360s with HDDs in consumer’s hands than there are PS3s with HDDs anyway.
@jarrod… why are you even bringing up full game installs here? What does it have to do with playing MGS4 on the 360? Besides, this whole full install thing seems like just another way for Microsoft to push sales for their INSANELY OVERPRICED hard drives.
And FFXI, came with the HD. So they could guarantee that anyone who was buying FFXI had the HD. So the least common denominator was a PS2 without a hard drive; because they supplied the hard drive.
And another important aspect of the whole full game install thing is that its OPTIONAL. That means the game has to be able to work, without being installed to the hard drive as well.
@jarrod - Disc size was just an example I was using. I could go on and on about my thoughts on it (which I started to, but stopped and held backspace after the fourth paragraph…), but in the end, they are just that, MY thoughts. I’m not going to change anyone’s mind about anything, and I accept that, I was just stating my opinion about it. There is one minor difference between the two I’d like to state though. MGS4 was made for the PS3, completely. Kojima has stated that there isn’t anything in the system that they didn’t use at least once. Crystal Tools is made for multiplatform, including Wii. It’d be child’s play to convert FFXIII to 360. It’d be almost completely redeveloping the game to convert MGS4 to the 360.
@Jaxel
Obviously it’s optional, but it’s a feature that could be used to load an entire multi-disc game and avoid problematic disc swapping. Also, FFXI 360 didn’t ship with a HDD.
@Darrien
Totally agreed with everything, FFXIII 360 makes immediate sense in terms of technology, in a way MGS4 just doesn’t. But in the end I still think market realities will likely deliver the game on 360 in some form eventually. I wouldn’t be surprised to see MGS4 on PC either, maybe even with crossplatform MGO.
This wasn’t really a surprise. Once I read about Crystal Tools being a multiplatform engine, I figured FFXIII would eventually be announced for the Xbox 360. What IS surprising, though, is how the Xbox 360 version is only for North America and Europe yet nothing for Japan (as of now anyway). Expected? I suppose.
Can’t wait to see Nintendo’s and Sony’s conferences tomorrow. Maybe Crystal Bearers will _finally_ be shown in some new form?
Forgot to mention eariler…. best part about the whole thing? Finally got to see the lovely archer lady in motion, if even for a few seconds ^.^
@Rolando - What with the game already over budget, and the 360 version not building built until localization, the expected multiple discs, and the, what, 600,000 systems actually in Japan’s homes… it’d probably cost a lot more to make copies of than they’d recover in sales.
yes it’s good….ff13 for xbox 360….but i want ff13 versus for xbox 360

Holy crap… now you just need to report that the release date is this year and I’ll be set ;).
I wonder how many DVDs it will be?
