Natsume snags rights to Umihara Kawase Portable

This year Natsume has a more diverse E3 lineup with games that have nothing to do with Harvest Moon. In addition to Princess Debut, Natsume is preparing two more Marvelous projects for localization: Hamtaro DS and Yumi’s Odd Odyssey. You might know the latter game as Umihara Kawase Portable since we’ve covered it extensively. Yes, it’s coming to North America sometime this year so you can experience swinging across platforms from a springy fishing rod in English. A price has not been announced, but I expect Yumi’s Odd Odyssey to fall into the $20 range. I’m meeting with Natsume later this week so we should get some more answers about Yumi’s Odd Odyssey. I’m burning to ask them why they decided to localize Umihara Kawase Portable.

If I remember correctly, the Japanese release had issues with collision detection and general gameplay. Are you going to ask if these will be addressed?

While I’m glad that this is coming over, my expectations are below ground level. I seriously doubt that Natsume has the resources, the budget, or the WILLINGNESS to fix any of the game-breaking bugs.

…Or even any of the minor bugs, ala Atlus’ release of Arcana Heart.

Since there isn’t much text in Umihara Kawase, this is sounding very much like a quick “grab the license, churn out a few copies a short while later, then wait for the next Harvest Moon/Rune Factory to bring in some real money.” Kinda like XS Games’ releases of the Shikigami series.

I hope I’m wrong. I’d gladly pay full price for this game if I could be.
