When Worlds Kollide Superman can pound Scorpion into the ground

Midway has no intention of making Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe as technical as Street Fighter IV. They threw out the ability to cycle through multiple fighting styles and removed the weapons introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance to make the crossover game a title anyone can play. The new addition to the fighting system is mid-air combat where an attacking player tries to land three attacks before both players hit the ground. A defending player can try to counter the assault by pressing the same face button to block and reverse the situation. Whoever lands three hits gets to do a special move. When I played as Scorpion I threw a spear into the second player and tossed him to the ground.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe still has blood, but the level of violence is more like Mortal Kombat 1 on the Super Nintendo. Midway is adamant on adhering to and pushing the limits of a T rating. Fatalities still exist, but they aren’t as gory as Kano pulling out a beating heart. Scorpion’s fatality was one of the two finishing moves ready in the E3 build. He removes his mask to reveal a skull and burns his opponent with a blaze of fire just like Mortal Kombat 1, but in 3D. Superman’s “brutality” has an enraged Man of Steel repeatedly knock the other player into the ground before letting out a roar and illuminating the screen with laser beams from his eyes. When Scorpion burns the other player to a crisp they’re dead. Yes, Superman can die. When Superman buries his opponent you can clearly see he or she is still alive.

So far six characters have been revealed: Superman, Batman, Flash, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Sonya Blade. More are expected to be revealed this week at Comic-Con.
