According to the report, net sales for the first half of 2023 brought in ¥172 billion. This is an increase from ¥163 billion in 2022’s first half. However, operating income reduced from ¥26 billion to ¥17 billion, while ordinary income reduced from ¥45 billion to ¥26 billion.

Much of the increase in sales was driven by HD games, which saw a sales increase from ¥29 billion to ¥43 billion. This was driven primarily by Final Fantasy XVI and the console releases of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series.

However, MMO income was down year-over-year from ¥59 billion to ¥54 billion. Mobile titles are also saw a reduction in profits, with revenue falling from ¥28 billion to ¥23 billion. Square Enix attributed this to newer titles failing to make up for weak performance from older titles.

Elsewhere in its financial results, Square Enix noted it is seeing strong performance in its Amusement and Merchandise businesses’ sales. Both divisions have seen an increase in both revenue and operating profit. However, there is a small reduction in both revenue and operating income in the Publishing division.
