Final Fantasy Agito XIII and The 3rd Birthday phased to the PSP

By Spencer . August 1, 2008 . 8:52pm

ffxiia.jpgWhen both of these games were announced they were mobile phone titles designed for Japanese cell phones. Now The 3rd Birthday, a sequel to Parasite Eve with Aya, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII are in development as PSP games. The 3rd Birthday is scheduled to come out in Japan next year and it will probably come to North America too. Square Enix trademarked the 3rd Birthday months ago so chances are good. We’re nearly guaranteed to get Final Fantasy Agito XIII whenever it comes out in 2010 or later. Two PSP games from Square Enix are already scheduled in 2009: The 3rd Birthday and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

Too little Wii support=Square-Enix Fail

R Says:

Kind of glad to hear this, IMO. Parasite Eve was always one of the franchises I was curious about, but never got a chance to play (too young to rent/buy the games, haha.)

Pedro — Just get a PSP if there are so many games you want to play on it! Sheesh, all you ever do is whine for Wii ports…

Pedro Silva Says:

^ I have a PSP

As for these games, well better than coming out on phones where us westerners will never play them. But still, and to elaborate… Square-Enix lack of Wii support can only be a joke at this point, and should be adressed asap, it’s moronic even.

RagolSlayer Says:

@Pedro Silva - Wait until TGS for Wii announcements. DKΣ3713 was clearly all about Nomura, so I don’t understand why everyone’s so mad that S-E showed nothing for the Wii.

And honestly, S-E support for the Wii’s been pretty decent (Dragon Quest Swords, FFCC: My Life as a King, FF Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon - got a good bit of mileage out of all these games)

Kao Says:

Don’t really care for parasite eve that much, but hell yeah Agito XIII, there was just *no way* they were going to leave such a high profile game for mobiles only.

Aoshi00 Says:

Great news, I especially wanted the new Parasite Eve game. Now give us FF4 After too :)

Pedro Silva Says:

@ RagolSlayer

Well, I know, I wasn’t expecting anything but still. Nomura should stop being such a Sony fanboy, and the company should let him do as he pleases anymore.

Oh well.

Just for the record I think I was misunderstood.

thing for PSP titles is that, despite having one, I actually prefer playing them on home consoles, so effectively, I’d prefer Agito and Parasite Eve 3 on Wii or even PS2, same for crisis core and specially Dissidia (I hate fighting titles on PSP, due to the D-pad)

But… I wasn’t suggesting I want these on the Wii instead (On my part that’s for stuff like moneyhatted X360 games that could run on the Wii graphically, and the shin megami tensei series); I was saying that ok, they’ve shown this, and left the Wii out of it with no games (and shouldn’t)

Yeah, I’ll wait for TGS, but I won’t get my hopes up when they do these “no shows”.

seiya19 Says:

Well…while I´m glad that those games appear on a console platform, I´m dissapointed that they chose the PSP for it.

Since I heard about the Front Mission 2089 port on DS (which I´m still waiting to see if it gets localized) and The 3rd Birthday, I was hoping for a DS release. As for Agito XIII, I never thought that it would get a console port (like FF VII Before Crisis never did) but I would be of course interested on it if it were on DS.

The PSP doesn´t have enough games that I care about to justify it´s purchase, so I guess I´ll just dismiss these ones, at least for now.

Now, I´ll wait to see if FF IV: The After gets a DS port…

As for the Wii…while S-E support for the Wii has been indeed decent, it doesn´t compare to 360/PS3 efforts so far. It makes sense that Wii owners expect more from S-E, not only because of that, but also because of Wii worldwide sales. Even FF CC: The Crystal Bearers has been out of sight lately…

Still, I do think that it´s just a matter of time, so I´m not worried about it. In the meantime, there´s several promising RPGs announced for Wii already, like Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile, Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World, King´s Story and Rune Factory: Frontier.

meikiyou Says:

if it wasn’t for nomura i would say that agito and parasite eve were coming for wii maybe if nintendo wants they change ideas, where is the wiifit board game that wada said was interested? maybe ff snowboard? chocobo racing 2? parasite eve would be a good game using wii motion controls a lá revil, but i prefer new ips like they did extremely well with twewy, nanashi no game, sigma harmonics, square need get back to those ceative days of 16 bits U_U butwe still waiting kingdoN hearts: mushroom core =]

Pedro Silva Says:

^ that’s the thing, I don’t want that crap. They’re free to do what they want of course, they did chocobo racing on ps1, and hell, they even ported snes games… but they were going along with newer titles, investment and all that.

The wii can’t be a dump for FFCC spinoff’s, DQ spin-off’s, Chocobo Spin-off’s; they’ve got to get to it.

As for parasite eve, it’s not that I don’t agree, but it was originally a mobile phone game, I suggest the gameplay was already being thought from the ground for a mobile platform.

As for real creativity, like sigma harmonics, paint me interested… But that’s not what they’re delivering on my Wii. Which, looking at the roadmap of upcoming stuff is, hmm… nothing?

squall3031 Says:

I’m glad that they decided to do this.
Although i was expecting they would move it to Nintendo DS. But it’s fine since i have both NDS and PSP. Mwahahahahaha

I just hope they bring FF7 before crisis to NDS.

Pedro Silva Says:

^ that one with the turks?

Aoshi00 Says:

For FF4 The After, they could actually put in on GBA, I still have the Gameboy player out to play Mother 3 and FF6 on the big screen. PSP’s TV display is too small. Too bad they don’t let us play DS games on a TV.

It’s been literally months since I touched the Wii (except using it to play the long overdue Tales of Symphonia, not updating my system to disable the freeloader yet). Need to get back to Lost Winds and FFCC Little King one of these days.. right now busy w/ Infinite Loop, deja vu and feels like Shadows of Destiny..

Rolando Says:

@Aoishi00

If FFIV The After received any kind of porting treatment, it’s more like to go the Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness route and be ported to the DS. After all, there’s money to be made on the DS.

As for Square-Enix showing the Wii some love, I’d say wait for TGS. I don’t think Square-Enix can ignore other third party publishers taking the Wii a bit seriously now.

RagolSlayer Says:

Personally, I’d rather see FFIV The After go to the PSP with high-res sprites (though I’m probably in the minority here). The sprites for FFI and FFII were absolutely gorgeous.

jarrod Says:

Hey Nomura, port Monotone to DS please!

Pedro Silva Says:

hmmmm, FFIV the after has snes graphics, I’d want it on DS.

They’re free to do a higher res sprite version for PSP though, would be a good gesture, but not exclusive I hope, after FFIV DS even.

This said… anything better than being mobile phone only.

What’s Monotome btw?

Speaking of games that would be neat though… there’s that game square released for the iphone. a DS oficial MP3 reader from them, using it would be neat, and PSP already has all the hardware needed too doesn’t it?

seiya19 Says:

@Pedro Silva

Monotone it´s a puzzle-RPG for mobile phones, with Tetsuya Nomura involved in it (even though it has a much different art style than its other games).

Now that we´re mentioning S-E mobile phone games…I just remembered that there´s also Kingdom Hearts Coded and Crystal Guardians. Maybe one of these could go to a console as well…

By the way Pedro Silva, you shouldn´t dismiss S-E “spin-off” games for Wii that easily… While those games may not be the best that S-E has to offer, they can still be worth it. Personally, I´m interested in seeing more of The Crystal Bearers and Soul Eater: Monotone Princess (as well as try the other Wii games that are already available).

PS: Why does people say that Nomura is a Sony fanboy ? Do you know something I don´t, or is it just speculation ?

Pedro Silva Says:

I might appear I am dismissing them, but I’m now… Now… I’m sick of only getting them, I want real stuff now.

Crystal Bearers is cool, it’s the FF9 team who’s doing it. I just think being stuck with a FF Spin-off is not that good for them, I mean do away with the FF in the title, Crystal Bearers is fine.

IMO Soul Eater looks garbage though, I bet it’s from the FMA team.

Still too little support though.

as for Nomura, he is a Sony Fanboy, too many past examples, nothing like coming outright and saying it, but he clearly is not fond of other brand machines, and doesn’t even try to hype his products on non-sony platforms that much

jarrod Says:

Here’s the site for Monotone if you’re interested…

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/mobile/mono/

… if we got FF4 The After ported, I’d expect it on DS, from Matrix, reusing their FF4 DS engine and assets.

Nika Says:

@pedro silva; What does it matter if Nomura would be a sony ‘fanboy’ (I hate that term) or not? He indeed seems to have a preference for sony, but saying he ‘is clearly not fond of other mashines’ is going a bit far isn’t it? Partly because that is simply your conclusion.

more on topic; I’m happy Agito will come to the psp ^^

Pedro Silva Says:

Nika I don’t think it is. after all “having a preference for sony” means he has a preference and is more fond of them than other platforms.

And I also think that’s pretty obvious at this point.

Hullo Says:

Bitch bitch bitch, whine whine whine, stop crying about your stupid wii. the reason its even in first is because of casuals, which is why so many wii’s soon collect dust after purchase (mine included) go play mario and stop crying.

At least its not on phones and has at least a possibility of being played by North American consumers, don’t like their choice? suck it up baby. not everything can come out for your beloved gimic system.

Now proceed to (attempt) to flame me in a very fanboyish ignorant attempt to protect your beloved sacred cow.

Wimp.
