Street Fighter Alpha will join the meager lineup of PsOne Classics in North America on Thursday. The release is just the vanilla PsOne game without online play or anything special. This announcement could have been a “surprise”, but the ESRB leaked this news back in January. Eight months later we’re finally seeing a release. The overall reaction seems less than positive on Capcom’s blog primarily because the news was already out. Poor Capcom. If Street Fighter Alpha is priced the same as other PsOne Classics it won’t be bad deal as a $6 download, but most hardcore Street Fighter fans already own something else pictured here.

I played the hell out of this with my friends in junior high. It’s a good game, but totally outclassed by SFA3.
The fact that it’s the PSX version and not the arcade will probably mean loading times between matches too. Oh well, I have Alpha Anthology anyway, so there’s no load times with that.
The PS port also had cut animation frames. It’s not on par with either the CPS2 or Saturn versions.

I actually have been playing a lot of Alpha Anthology recently. It’s a great little collection.
