Electronic Arts mashes Wii Sports with celebrities

How can EA separate a sports mini-game collection from the multitude of motion controlled party games on the market? Just add celebrities. Celebrity Sports Showdown is exactly what it sounds like, celebrities and sports like beach volleyball. However, EA’s game features an awkward combination of pop idols like Fergie and real life athletes Mia Hamm. Avril Lavigne and Sugar Ray Leonard competing in the curling event can’t be balanced for realism.

Celebrity Sports Showdown has all of the ingredients to attract a casual crowd when it comes out this winter. It’s a party game. It’s simple to play. It has famous faces. Celebrity Sports Showdown should have been relatively less expensive to develop too. EA Canada, the developer, already made a dodgeball game for the Wii when they finished up EA Playground. Celebrities don't license their image for free so it's easy to see where the game's budget went.

Here’s the full list of sports and celebrities in Celebrity Sports Showdown.
