Watch: Homebrew adds DVD playback to the Wii

Nintendo dropped the ball on DVD support, but it’s an understandable decision. Including DVD playback would mean licensing the technology and passing the fees to customers. Most homes have DVD players anyways. The extra cost wouldn’t make the Wii a better gaming console, but if you’re dying to use the vacuum loading drive to watch movies a solution has arrived. A brilliant programmer developed a program for the Homebrew Channel that adds DVD playback support. Novel, but the possibility of reading media discs with Nintendo 64 ROMs sounds much more useful for the homebrew scene. Take a look how it works and enjoy it until Nintendo finds a way to override these features with a future firmware update.
