Chrono Trigger DS has optional SNES controls, here’s arrange mode

By Spencer . September 9, 2008 . 1:09am

ctdsarrAt E3 a Square Enix representative told us Chrono Trigger would include a single screen classic mode for purists and here it is. This is a screenshot from the DS arrange version or Chrono Trigger classic with the addition of enemy HP meters on the bottom screen. I guess Lucca’s default accessory, the Sightscope, is completely useless if you’re playing Chrono Trigger in arrange mode.

If you want to play Chrono Trigger with touch screen controls the battle menus appear on the bottom screen with huge buttons. The benefit of touch screen layout is less clutter and no more enemies hiding under the ATB meter.

can you switch in and out of this option while playing the same save slot?

  • jp

    Your speculation is incorrect.

  • lint

was Lucca’s default accessory ever NOT completely useless?

  • thaKingRocka

could someone explain the japanese usage of the words “arrange” and “original,” please?

  • Pulstar

I always thought the Arrange Mode meant “rearranged/enhanced” mode?

  • Spencer

@jeffx – Great question, but I don’t have answer for that.

@jp – I believe you have your copy of Chrono Trigger already (?) so please enlighten me :)

@lint – I was kind of of hinting to that since I never found the sight scope useful.

@thaKingRocka – Arrange is like “rearrange” or something like using the same elements in a different order. This is different from a remake which is like an overhaul. Original is unchanged.

I’m glad they leave the classic control as an option, but w/ the new interface and a more refined script, this definitely brings a freshness for those of us who’ve beaten this game countless times. Can’t wait.

i could never figure out if they meant that original was equivalent to unique or if it meant it was unchanged because “arrange” was meaningless to me. thanks for the clarification.
