While I really hate this trend of paying extra for download content that could´ve been included from the beginning, I actually agree with jarrod on this one.

Deciding on a case by case basis seems to me like the best way to approach these situations, depending on how much you care about the game, how much are you getting for your money, the nature of the dlc, the chances of a "full" re-release, price, etc. It´s not an ideal situation, but missing games that you really care about just for this is worse in my opinion.

In this case, Megaman 9 is not an expensive game, the dlc announced so far is not essential (although it´s great and cheap) and you´re really getting a full game content-wise. Even more, with such an "important" game in terms of expectation (it´s been a while...), its unique characteristics and its sales being probably decisive to get more games after... I think it´s worth it. But well, I´m biased because of being a Megaman fan in this case...

Not quite sure why people seem to think that companies actually care about anything other than money. But when you take out the power slide and charge shot based on a "design decision" and then put it back in as a "make some money" decision, it makes one wonder why it actually was removed in the first place. Also, the fact that this is being released less than 2 weeks after the game's release, shows that it was indeed finished when the game was finished and simply withheld so as to make more cash for the developer. You may think that I am being down on all DLC then? No, not really. I like DLC that extends the life of a game or adds new content to it. Such as expansion packs or Mario Kart Wii tourneys. I just think that content should either be something that wasn't already created when the game was made and withheld, or make the added content free. Or, if you want to make your game free to download and play, and then add in extra paid content, I am fine with that too. I just simply don't like paying for something just to find out it's the "base plan" with "options". I don't really like my games to be piece mailed out like some cellphone plan.

My argument is as sound as you think yours is. I now see you just think you are smarter than me. Personally I don't really give two craps what you think. As for being cheap, not really, not when compared to Bionic Commando Rearmed, a game that cost probably as much as 10 times the money to develop. It costs the same amount and also has all the content already built into it for the same price. If you want to be such a jerk as to call me a fool then back at ya. Hope you love your constant dlc payments being rammed up your butt for all eternity. Oh and I can argue anything I want to. Go to Kotaku and look at the comments on this situation. I am hardly the only person who feels this way.

Already have, but don't expect me to sit quiet when you argue a strawman like removed content. The game's insanely cheap already, and the additions all seem to be actual additions, like extra game modes or playable characters.

Don't like DLC and want to take a stand on principle, then fine. I'd say it's foolish for anyone who enjoys these sorts of games, but that's just my opinion... just don't push unsound arguments as your justification.

Just buy the damn game already man. It don't matter what I say. You are just going to find some excuse to say I don't know what I am talking about. As for me, I think I would rather just put that $10 towards Pure anyways. The demo of that game blew me away at how fun it is. Pretty crazy it is being published by Disney.

Removing elements like the charge shot and slide were design decisions... MM9 is basically a love letter to MM2, the game is designed around not having those elements. The Protoman DLC is superfluous to that, it's just an optional bonus and undoubtedly makes the core game far easier.

Ok it has just been revealed the dlc is Protoman and he will bring back the slide and power shot that were removed from this game. It is coming out Oct.6 which is two weeks after the game is released and will basically be just giving us what we should have gotten in the first place. These are things that have been in the series since MM3. If somebody don't see it by now, then I suppose there is nothing more I can say. Just be sure this won't be the last thing that they try to piecemeal to us if we allow it.

Perhaps it isn't as bad here as it could be with MM9. The problem is that it seems to be getting progressively worse and worse as time goes on. It is best to nip it in the bud as soon as possible. I also think that if there is going to be dlc that we will be charge for in the future that we should be told exactly what that content is. It makes it easier to see exactly what is being stripped. I suppose that such transparency is a pipe dream but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from several other games that have pulled similar stunts. I am just very cautious anymore. Also I feel a little upset because Capcom has avoided this so far with their other direct to download games. We need to do everything we can to keep other companies from going down the Bandai/Namco route of selling incomplete games with obviously missing content.

I dunno, I think context is important and you have to look at these things on a case by case basis. Sure the scenario you outline does happen (see FFCC Wiiware), but then I'm not sure that's really the case for MM9. What I'm seeing is a full fledged retro-styled MM game for JUST $10, with a la carte extra content (playable PM, likely a remixed soundtrack, etc) on top. If you just buy MM9, it's not like you're getting an incomplete experience...

It is a matter of principle to me. The content is obviously done. When you sell something as a "full game" and then expect people to give out more money when you already supposedly bought the full game to me, that is a form of fraud.
