Sorry, Deathsmiles Won’t Be Region Free (Go Bother Cave)

By Spencer . September 23, 2008 . 11:41am

dsm While some Xbox 360 games are region free most games that are released in Japan are not. Deathsmiles included. Sorry if this post crushed any dreams. A comment on the official Deathsmiles blog explains the current plan is Deathsmiles will be encoded for Japan/Asia, but the decision is not final at the moment. Perhaps, a group of shooter fans can change Cave’s plan? The blog also has an e-mail address where people can mail comments and suggestions directly to Cave.

    boo. hiss. boo.
region-free should be the standard. these japanese companies should wake up the fact that their japan-only games would sell more copies if made region free.

my reading’s not so hot, but i think i caught something about how they’d like to do espgaluda 2 on live if possible.

Regional coding shouldn’t even exist. Once you buy a product companies shouldn’t be sneaking code in to micromanage the way you play it.

I think any company that includes regional coding obligates themselves to publish the game equally worldwide.

Way would Cave want to region lock the disc anyway. Does it cost more in fees to have no region applied.

    Does the Japanese blog explain.

Or do they want an overseas publisher to buy the exclusive export rights and thus possibly make more money that way.

Can’t standing region coding either. Every time I buy a 360 game I have to watch out for compatibility (eg. Operation Darkness, Infinite Undiscovery, etc). Right now I’m waiting for the Jpn release of GTA 4.

“I think any company that includes regional coding obligates themselves to publish the game equally worldwide.”
Truer words have never been spoken. I agree with this 100%.

@wii_Hd – The comment is like two lines of text simply explaining right now the plan is not to release Deathsmiles region free. It’s possible Cave is hoping for another company to publish it internationally so they’re locking it in hopes of selling the rights.

    Time to slice and dice!

Really a shame Microsoft’s been rejecting shooters from XBLA post-Ikaruga. Stuff like this, the 5bp ports, Shooting Love, Raiden Fighters, Otomedius, etc, etc would all have guaranteed worldwide releases if they were digital downloads. :/
