Wii Storage Problem Ameliorated With SD Cards?

By Spencer . October 1, 2008 . 10:39pm

sdwiiNintendo isn’t going to force everyone to buy a Wii hard drive yet. In spring 2009 there is a plan to roll out an update which allows users to download WiiWare games directly to an SD card. The Gemaga live blog from Nintendo’s press conference in Japan doesn’t explicitly state you will be able to run games off SD cards. They mention “easier copying” as another new feature. But, how will downloading games directly to an SD card help if we can’t run them off the card?

Nintendo is not a "technical" company. When they say copy they probably mean copy and play. This from the people that the only way to have online play is with buddy codes and tying content to a console instead of an account. They always seem to be a generation or two behind on tech.

"They always seem to be a generation or two behind on tech"

Sure... like when they had the most powerful console in the market in the N64 era... Or when they had the Satellaview before with the SFC, one of the first devices (or the first ?) to allow downloadable games on a console, not to mention streaming live voices on a game... How about the analog stick, rumble and RANDnet online service in the N64; the motion sensing, connectivity and touch screen in handhelds; or the Wii-mote´s technology ? Do those not count ?

No, I´m guessing you´re just refering to the N64 cartridges, Wii/DS friend codes and capacity and GC´s online capabilities, which are all intentional things, explained by their approach. There´s a difference between not being able to add those things, and thinking that those aren´t needed or using other alternatives instead, whether you personally agree or not.

Anyway... now more on topic, according to Gamespot´s report on NOA´s event, Reggie said that: "Soon you will be able to download and store virtual console and WiiWare titles directly on your SD card, and play them off your SD card. This will make the Wii download experience much easier." so it seems that the games will be playable from the SD cards after all.
