Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom "Probably Not" Coming To North America

By Spencer . October 10, 2008 . 12:19pm

gold The most disheartening comment I heard at Tokyo Game Show came from my meeting with Capcom. I asked multiple representatives if they were planning to publish Tatsunko vs. Capcom: Cross Generations of Heroes in North America or Europe and I got the same answer “probably not.” The key reason seems to be the licensing. Tatsunko’s properties are handled by different companies often with different licensing agreements.

North America will never know the joy of seeing Gold Lightan stomp on Ryu and crush Yatterman with his giant fist. Giant characters like Gold Lightan and PTX-40A (a Vital Suit from Lost Planet) tower over other characters. They also are immune to knockback from a puny human sized character. One of the most amusing things to test out is pushing a character into a corner while they’re attacking you. I have more impressions of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom coming including a comparison with the Classic Controller and easy operation control schemes. The latter isn’t as bad as I expected it would be.

can you ask them, please, if they'll use that engine for Street Fighter IV Wii?

other than that, it's the expected response I guess, Street Fighter characters are fine, but the tatsunoko ones... must be a pain in the ass to licence, let alone the market actually knowing them and stuff.

I'm mostly interested in it for the engine, tbh.

I guess it's time to import and region-free it.
  • lostinblue
nintendo should release an update and implement region free... at least optional for the developers so some games would be region free, that is.

    (I'm serious)

Meanwhile, yeah, this one is really hopeless.
  • That's bullsh*t. Oh, well...
Like Charlie said, importing is an option.
I don't care what Sony or the laws have to say about it. I'll go down in a blaze of glory to play this game.

Well we all expected this. But to be honest, us hardcore gamers always find a way around things. The region barrier wont stop me from playing this, even if it costs alot.
  • thaKingRocka
you didn't ask about the possibility of a ps3 version? the region-free ps3? porque no?
  • lostinblue
    @ thaKingRocka

it's a SD game (even down to the the arcade cabinet) a PS3 build would cost too much and it's not like they don't have a higher profile fighter coming for it.

"it" (as in: tatsunoko) doesn't justify that, just for a few importers and region free. You can ask away at Ask Capcom forums though (was already asked though)

That's very lame. I'm glad the Wii is getting such great new games but now I can't import it as I have no plans of motifying my Wii in any way.

I really hope it gets ported to PS3, then at least I can import it. Or even better scenario would be if Capcom USA changes their mind. I know a lot of people who want to play this game.

Anon there's a homebrew way to nulify the region lock, and I wouldn't qualify it as modding given how transparent it is.

that's how I play my original imports on the Wii anyway.

But they really should abolish the darned region lock. for all consoles actually.

Sure would be nice if they could find a way to make it work out. But unfortunately, it looks like another case of Super Robot Taisen syndrome.

Slap in some Marvel characters Capcom. Easy money.
  • Aoshi00
My Wii freeloader still works since I haven't done the last update that disabled it, maybe works for this game too.

It's hard to think the big N would unlock regions, it's the only that machine where we can't buy things cross region, like setting up Jpn accts w/ Xbox Live or PSN.. otherwise we would have tons of Jpn DS demos to play.

Spencer can you ask Capcom if they will be giving North American Wii owners another fighting game? Like SF4 or be replacing Tatsunoko with some other IP (Marvel,Top Cow,Tangent,Antarctic Press).
  • G
...this game should have been released for the PS3. Then, if the release is "japan only", it could be still imported on that region free console.
  • CamDee
We all have to send capcom america a million letters of recommending this game to be released in america and we will have a guarantee on this game to come out here.
  • We definitely should beg Capcom for this game. If they were guaranteed to make their money back for all the licensing fees they'd have to pay, they'd be more willing to get it out in other regions.
  • Ray
I hope Tatsunoko (Corporation) will soon realize how welcoming and receptive the US market can be for truly quality productions such as this latest collaborative effort.

Even though we're in a recession, American gamers are absolutely willing to pay top-dollar to get this game ...... or on the other end of the spectrum, would even be willing to hold their parents hostage for a game like this! lol... well... you get the idea.
