PSP PlayStation Store Debuts With Free Downloadable Game

Overnight Official Sony PSP Firmware 2.5 went live which includes direct access to the PlayStation Store and a handful of other updates. Aside from digital re-releases I’m not sure how Sony Computer Entertainment America plans to take advantage of the feature, but Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is making a huge push towards digital downloads. Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2, a retail PSP game, will be released on the store for about $10 cheaper. SCEJ plans to release all of their first party games as direct downloads on the same day they launch at stores. To lure users into the digital download era Sony Computer Entertainment put up Mainchi Issho Portable on the PSP PlayStation Store for free. All you need is a Japanese PlayStation Network account to get access to it and other goodies like the Prinny demo.

Mainichi Issho Portable features Toro, the Sony cat, in a collection of mini-games and ToroStation news broadcasts. Of course all of the content is in Japanese, but it’s still a neat toy to mess around with.

I still need to say, the one time I tried putting Japanese [official] PSN content from my PS3 to my PSP, I wasn’t able to because my PSP was tied to my North American PSN/PS3 account. Is there any way around this other than de-registering it from my NA PSN account (which would remove a few of my PSN games I’ve migrated to my PSP)?

@Chow – You have to register/re-register your PSP every time you want to use content from a different region. The easiest way to do this is download a trailer from the Japanese Store when you want to use content from Japan. I tend to switch my PSP from US to JPN a lot since I have Beats and Japanese demos like Prinny coexisting on the same device.

  • its a nightmare trying to reregister psp all the time i gave up in the end
