Jun The Swan Joins Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom

tatsunoko The Gatchaman / Battle of the Planets license is a key property for the Tatsunoko side in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Two characters from Gatchaman are confirmed for the game Ken the Eagle and Jun the Swan. She’s so new she wasn’t even playable in the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom build Capcom brought to Tokyo Game Show.

Yatterman is the other Tatsunoko series with two, well four if you include Doronjo’s helpers, in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Unfortunately, both of these are problem licenses since the rights for Battle of the Planets has expired and despite its popularity in Japan no anime distributor picked up Yatterman.

Well the rights to Battle of the Planets have expired but I was under the impression that ADV had the rights to Gatchaman. Regardless I am not holding my breath. So few of these characters are familiar to US audiences. Couple that with the fact that 2D fighters are already niche and you can see why Capcom probably cares little about bringing it out here. Please Capcom prove me wrong here.

Isn't it actually good that the rights have expired? That should mean that they don't even have to pay anyone other than the Japanese creators (Tatsunoko as always) to publish such characters in other regions.

I thought the problems rise because there are many different rights holders for all the different IPs so many different companies would have to agree on the release of this game, whereas the likes of Marvel Vs Capcom only really need settlements with one other company, Marvel.

Sigh.....I was hoping for Joe the Condor. Now he was cool. I am assuming that the game will feature plenty of panty shots just like the original show did.
