SNK Comments On Metal Slug 7 Development

By Spencer . October 21, 2008 . 11:26am

ms7 There is a canned “interview” with SNK floating around used to promote the US version of Metal Slug 7 which Ignition will release on November 18. SNK describes some of the missions in combat school, outlines the new slugs, but doesn’t say anything substantial like outlining the differences between the Xbox Live Arcade release. The two things in Metal Slug 7 SNK seem to be proud of are their dot-image graphics and charming Cynthia, the female instructor who hands out the combat school missions. The developmental team kindly remind you, “please do not miss out on this.”

What new features can we expect to see in Metal Slug 7?

In addition to the new Stages & Slugs, the greatest selling point of this title is being able to feel the same quality of elaborately depicted realistic dot-image graphics as the arcade version of the Metal Slug in the palm of your hand.

Will we see some new and familiar faces? If so, who and/or what?

As a matter of course, in addition to the MS familiar faces of Marco, Tarma, Fio, and Eri, Ralf Jones and Clark Still are also joining to the battle.  The users can choose their favorite characters as each of the 6 characters has their own unique abilities.

ms7a Will there be any new weapons in Metal Slug 7? And what about Slugs, will we have the opportunity to pilot any new Slugs in this installment?

Yes, in “Metal Slug 7” players will find a host of new Slugs and enemies along with various traps and puzzles that await them.  One new weapon is “THUNDER SHOT” which follows and attacks enemies. As for new Slugs, there’s “SLUG TROLLEY” where up to 4 of them can be linked together to run in the coal mines, and “Slug Gigantus,” a behemoth-class Slug which boasts astounding firepower.

Metal Slug is known world-wide for its intense boss battles.  Can we expect Metal Slug 7 to carry on with this tradition? And what can we expect to see in regards to boss battles in Metal Slug 7?

Metal Slug series’ excitement & traditional boss battles are carried over with this title.  Various new styled bosses with the ability to combine and separate  appear and are waiting for battle!

Aside from the main Mission what other modes have been included to add to the overall gameplay experience?

Aside from the main mission, this title includes “Combat School Mode” the mode Metal Slug fans ask for most.

Can you describe in greater detail the Combat School mode?

There are 80 missions Instructor Cynthia assigns you to, which you can savor after completing your main mission. The missions include “Base Attack”, “Rescue Hostages”, “Annihilate Objective”, “Recover Supplies”, and “Special Training”. Some stages appear only in Combat School. As your ranking increases, you’ll find Cynthia’s attitude toward you changes. Please do not miss out on this.

Will Metal Slug 7 take use of the DS Touch Screen, and if so for what purpose?

A map is displayed on the Nintendo DS’s touch screen. By touching this screen, the position of items & prisoners are shown here. Dragging the touch stylus along the map allows you to take a peek at what lies ahead.

ms7b Lastly, are there any encouraging words that you can give gamers that will be playing Metal Slug for the first time on the DS?

Metal Slug 7 is developed for the handheld platform, but we worked very hard  to provide the same quality as the arcade version.  Along with its simple shoot and jump commands, the game has dazzled legions of fans with its variety of actions and superb game balance. It’s intricately depicted dot graphics taken to the extreme have been hailed as sheer artistry and received high praise from action game fans.

We eagerly hope players try the latest series’ of Metal Slug and feels the greatest Metal Slug world!
