Valkyrie Profile: Covenant Of The Plume Promised For Release In March

By Spencer . November 11, 2008 . 8:10am

vpcovI predicted Square Enix picked up Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One back in June when I caught a trademark. Now, about five months later, we have an official confirmation that Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume is coming and a teaser site to poke at. But, there isn’t anything to see aside from the March 17, 2009 release date for North America.

What can we expect from Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume? An isometric strategy RPG and a main character who wants revenge. After Wylfred’s father was taken as an Einherjar by Lenneth he loathed her. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume also has a familiar combat system where four different characters are mapped to different buttons.

If you haven’t been keeping up with our other Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume coverage this trailer should give you a good idea about the combat system. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume just came out in Japan on November 1 and it’s getting a reasonable turn around time with only five months between regions.

DOOD! How about focusing on making a Tri-Ace RPG for the Wii!!!! The DS has waaaaay to many RPG’s now and counting. The only good Wii RPG we have is STILL ZELDA!! and FF:CC? M.I.A…..:/

1.Oboro Muramasa Yōtōden aka Muramasa: The Demon Blade (VanillaWare)
    2.Arc Rise Fantasia (imageepoch)
3.Fragile: Sayonara Tsuki no Haikyo (tri-Crescendo)

The Wii has some good rpgs coming soon.

I’m just not a huge fan of SRPGs compared to traditional RPGs… but I will give this a try. The music is so good!!!

Agreed this could/should have been on Wii. And Muramasa is not what I would call an RPG, Princess… let’s not get caught up in this.

Always good to hear another tri-Ace game is coming.

  • Is it actually a SRPG though? The combat just looks like the system from the first. Or is there a tactical map before you engage them?

  • Spencer

@Geoff – It’s a tactical grid SRPG. This video doesn’t show it, but we have others with the grid.

I was really excited about this game, and it didn’t disappoint. Its pretty awesome, I’m about 5 hours into it. The great thing about it is there is a lot of speech, so if you’re spoken Japanese isn’t as bad as your Kanji, its pretty easy to follow the plot (which is refreshingly good).

The battle system is a great mixture of strategy like in FFT and also traditional VP fighting. I was a little disappointed with them not having ANY side scrolling parts, I thought it would have been nice to keep the towns that way but oh well, its still wicked.
