Hudson Planning To Resurrect More Classic Franchises

image Earlier this week Hudson officially announced a new wave of WiiWare games including Snowboard Riot. What felt missing, in my opinion, were more classic revivals. Through the Virtual Console a new generation of gamers are getting exposed to Hudson’s TurboGrafx-16 titles and a lot of their old intellectual property.

I spoke with Kentaro Murayama, Head of the Hudson Entertainment Department in Japan, and asked him if they are planning to revisit more of their older franchises. Murayama-san replied, “The answer is yes, but we cannot disclose the names yet.” Names? Wait a second! Promptly, I said “So… there are multiple franchises?” and Murayama-san said yes. Interestingly, these won’t just show up on the Wii. Hudson’s plan is to bring some of their classic franchises to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 too.

Out of all the franchises Bonk seems high on the list for a revival. The hard headed caveman got a brand new cell phone game, but we would rather see him headbutting dinosaurs on a TV screen.

Yes please be Bonk that a game I would get, and also a new Monster World rip off with Westone help :( like it would happen.

  • ECM

Bonk’s been in the pipe for at least two years and, according to the folks at Hudson USA, they had a greenlight to do the project…*but* the mothership wasn’t going to pony up the loot they needed to ‘do it right’, so they held off.

As for Monster World, it’d be nice if Sega would just get off their collective ass and contract Westone to revive the franchise properly–the Sega Ages collection at least proved they are still aware it exists.

As for obscura I’d like to see come back:

    *A full-blown Star Soldier sequel.
*Devil’s Crush (to follow the (sadly) lackluster ACR).
*Spriggan! Get Milestone to update the bloody thing.

    And, finally:

*A new Thunder game! I’ll take a sequel to either Gate or Lords (or even something entirely new–I’m not picky).

    I want Neutopia III.

  • Someone New

Neutopia III has been in the works by an independent software developer for a few years now, on the hardware which started the series.

  • Uzi

I want more Military Madness (or they call it Nectatris in Japan)

  • jarrod

But I want a Hudson developed Neutopia III.

Air Zonk. That was the game of my childhood!
