American Detective Novelist Raymond Chandler Gets A Japanese DS Game

Next spring a DS game based on the 1940s novel Farewell, My Lovely will come out in Japan. This strange scenario is presented by Furyu, the same company behind Last Bullet.

Furyu’s game partially sticks the source material. It borrows detective Philip Marlowe, the main character from Chandler’s novel, and places him into a touch screen mystery adventure game. However, this isn’t a direct conversion of the novel. Furyu has original story sequences that players can find depending on what choices they make.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Japanese company adapt a Western property for a game, but it’s always fascinating to see what movies, TV shows or in this case novels are considered game worthy in Japan. Furyu seems really proud to have a Raymond Chandler license too since the full title of the game’s name is something like Classic Mystery Adventure DS Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler.
