Obscure Koei Games Coming To A Virtual Console Near You

image Koei may be well known now thanks mostly to Dynasty Warriors, but they have been around making historical games on the NES. Since Koei targeted a niche market many of their older games are hard to find and often command premium prices on eBay. Fortunately, the Virtual Console acts as an equalizer for anyone who just wants to play one of their old games.

The ESRB just rated Nobunaga’s Ambition and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons for the Wii. Unless Koei has top secret remakes of these they are Virtual Console releases. After reading about the Uncharted Waters MMO for the PS3 I’m mildly interested in the series. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons is supposed to be a marine RPG sort of like Pirates and according to Koei it’s “the ultimate Role-Playing Adventure!” Now that’s a powerful endorsement!

    Buying Konami games will surely bring us closer to getting Sparkster and the rest of Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon on VC, right? :D

    Konami != Koei

    I have nothing but fond memories of New Horizons.

    Now if only Koei would release Daikoukai Jidai III and IV.

  • New Horizons is so much fun. I did better in History class because of that game.

  • Hello Hello

    New Horizons was awesome back in the day. You could have a lot of fun just sailing from port to port discovering the world as you go along. There were multiple characters to play as and each had a unique story mode.

    New Horizons was one of the games that I bought for like $5 at a pawn shop for my sega genesis and could not put down until I had beat it with all of the characters. My favorite one was the british officer and first mate who stole the spanish galleon, ah good times, good times.
