World Destruction To Be Known As Sand Of Destruction In North America

By Spencer . December 5, 2008 . 8:12am

imageYes, World Destruction is getting a North American release. The President of Imageepoch already told us they were working on a North American version back at Tokyo Game Show. Sega USA just hasn’t gotten around to announcing it yet. But, Sega must be getting ready to make an announcement soon.

Eagle-eyed Volcynika spotted a game on Sega’s FTP under the name “Sands of Destruction” which had screenshots of the US version World Destruction. Thanks for tipping us of to this!

The title isn’t the only thing Sega is changing. The pirate bear will now be known as Taupy instead of Toppy. Alright, name changes confirmed, but what about the difficulty? One idea Imageepoch was considering was to revise it for North America by getting feedback from Western gamers.

Yes! Name is bit odd though… Is there something to do with sand in the game (Plot-wise)?

  • Vrakanox

Glad this is coming over. :)

  • Volcynika

I heard sands are very important of the game from importers. Also, the crazy part is, it says December 4th announcement, but there is zero PR. Anywhere! So no idea of a tentative release date window until they release one.

@Volcynika – Thanks again for sending us this tip and please always feel free to ping us! I scouted around for a press release too, but couldn’t find anything from Sega USA or Sega Europe. It’s strange, but as long as World Destruction / Sands of Destruction / Image Epoch Project Salamander comes to America I’m fine with it.

Unrelated, but the renaming reminds me a little of Skies of Arcadia. I like the title.

And yeah Seventh Dragon is my most wanted upcoming RPG, even slightly edging out DQIX and Infinite Space. I really hope Sega brings that one too, though I kinda worry they may want to see how SOD does first…

Sands is fine. I’m looking forward to the changelist.

Well in the anime the world’s oceans are sand instead of water. There was also another aspect related to sand but it involves character spoilers.

Been waiting for this title to come overseas for a while however I did get a bit concern after reading some critisism around the dungeon designs.

Good to see it coming :)

  • Pichi

I hope they balance the game out. I heard the difficulty was all over the place. Looking forward to it!

  • Kuronoa

Good that Sega is releasing it. Now off to watch the anime. /placed it on hold since it came out.

  • Aki-no-mori

The anime is veeeery different…except that the characters and the general setting *look* the same. (and the game is the more enjoyable experience of the two, IMHO)

  • Aoshi00

I haven’t played the game yet, but the anime is horrible, bad animation and plot, the Xenogears design here looks infinitely better than the generic anime counterpart. I sure hope the game has nothing to do w/ the anime.

Also I like the title change, World Destruction sounds so fake anyway (bad beast guys ruling the world so they go destroy the world…)

  • Pichi

I heard that the anime, manga(was there one?), and the game were all suppose to have different stories from each other. Which looks like they do, so hoping the game is the one with the best story.

  • Kuronoa

It was said at one point that the game is the base story and the other two adaptations are loose alternate versions or something.

Either way I’m watching it because I’m bound to anyways if I like the game. lol

  • Aoshi00

Honestly, I’ve watched 4 episodes out of 13 and they made me NOT
want to play the game. The animation quality took a deep dive
in the 2nd half of the first episode, and the subsequent eps aren’t much better. There was also no story at all even up to ep 4..
I was thinking of watching it to prepare myself for the game, I’m not touching the anime ever again. I remember the Xenosaga anime was horrible too, which is a pity.

I pray the game is much better since I have high hopes for its Xenogears char design and Mitsuda soundtrack.

The Valkyria Chronicles anime should receive better treatment though.

  • Kuronoa

Well then I could save the trouble, I have other anime to watch anyways.

  • Chris

They better not reduce the difficulty. Or at least, if they do, they better leave a difficulty option so you can have the original difficulty if you want.
