Concept Art For The First Batch Of Dragon Quest IX Classes

Concept Art For The First Batch Of Dragon Quest IX Classes We described the first round of classes in Dragon Quest IX before and now you can see the male and female versions of them. Before you begin your adventure you get to choose your gender. If you decide on a female warrior you can wear a practical chain mail tank top bikini combo. We’re sure it’s imbued with some kind of spell to protect the wearer. Ah, fantasy games and your ridiculous wardrobes.

While there are only five classes are shown here the Dragon Quest IX site teases there is more to see. What could those shadows represent? Hmm… the female one looks like Dancer?

@Sora – Yeah it’s a bit much and I’m not trying to defend Square Enix, but games in Japan are generally more expensive than here. Take Chrono Trigger DS for example. It’s 4,800 yen in Japan which is like $50 after currency exchange (declining dollar, etc.). Raidou 2 sold for 7,300-something yen ($78) and that was a PS2 game.

Something else to note is if you’re in Japan you can usually buy games below the MSRP the first day they come out at major retailers so Dragon Quest IX will be cheaper. And when Square Enix releases it in North America they won’t charge $65 for it. $45? Maybe, but that’s the highest.

Female Warrior makes me rage pretty hard. She’s just stupid-looking.

@ Lynxara>> At least it’s more reasonable than the skimpy outfits you see on females in fighting games and MMO’s. It gets even worse when the character is full figured. Sorry, but they’re going to pop out if they wear something like that into battle no matter what you say about magic and what have you!

you know, as a long time video game player, I’ve all but accepted the big breasted and skimpy clad females. I really wish they would portray females in a better light, but getting angry all the time just isn’t worth it and ruins the fun I could have had if I didn’t think about the absurdness of it all.

prime example: luminous arc & luminous arc 2, two of the best SRPGs available on the DS. I love them to death, but Vanessa and Fatima are the worst offenders.

It’s not that I don’t care, just that its too rampant and I would have to boycott far too many good games. Video games are still very much a male dominated area. =(
