i have to disagree with the writer here. blue dragon wasnt successful in japan, rather it was more like a xenosaga-type success.

the original game went on clearance sale just weeks after release, as did the ds installment released last year. furthermore even the anime is on clearance at some stores.

i think some people forget the difference between a commercial success that begets cash-in projects, and a multi-angle marketing approach. blue dragon, as with squaresofts failed venture code-age commanders, was marketed on a multi-tier strategy. its not that the game was successful that it begot the anime, rather the anime was intended to increase game sales.

it was similar with world destruction, though the game failed as well despite the anime running months before its release. a shame really, as the game was quite good.

@Spencer - That's too bad.. I'm seriously not interested in another DS spinoff. BD Plus is like FF12 Revenant Wings, both look amazing on consoles w/ lackluster downgraded spinoffs, all the while fans are just craving for a true BD2 sequel. Personally, I think the anime and spinoffs are cheapening the title.

I was really excited about the first Blue Dragon, which was what drove me to buy a 360 (and of course the later Lost Odyssey). I hope they can do better w/ this property. W/ this news it probably won't be a while... plus we hear nothing about "Cry On"..

@Paul / Aoshi00 - Funny thing about "Blue Dragon 2" I was talking with some folk at E3 about what happened to the series and they said Namco Bandai was working on the next game. I thought it was going to be an Xbox 360 game, but now we have this. So... I wonder if Namco Bandai is working on publishing something else related to Blue Dragon or the person I talked to was thinking of this.

I wonder when we can get a full fledged console sequel Blue Dragon 2, this is like Kingdom Heart Chain of Memories on the GBA.. I like the first Blue Dragon, the anime was disappointing and I'm not too crazy about the RTS Plus (just started playing it). Truth is I can't stand playing a 40 hr RPG by squinting on a handheld either, my eyes aren't what they used to be...

The game looks amazing by the way. I really hope Microsoft and Mistwalker announce Blue Dragon 2 and show some new 360 RPG's at E3.

they paid Blue Dragon too altogether, just like with Lost Odyssey, yet, Mistwalker is a independent developer and if Microsoft didn't pay for it it is unlikely they'd have it. it is as much of a moneyhat as... Infinite Undiscovery and White Knight Story I guess.

I was half serious, half teasing though, you guy's shouldn't take me this seriously when it comes to Microsoft.

Don't mind that it is on the DS. I'm surprised however that they just didn't stick with the format for the first game (turn based combat) after releasing an RTS.
I mean that would be what fans are buying it for?

@ death by oatmeal cookies - Because Mistwalker gets constant moneyhats from M$, you'd expect them to snap out of it and well... get over it, one of these days, but they're having too much fun making high budget RPG's that no one will play (and then do 3 DS RPG's, and one anime series trying to cater public for it), so...

It's just sad.

Wii is not having a JRPG drought though, it's getting pretty much everything that M$ didn't purchase minus a handful PS3 titles (which is not a small amount by now).
