There are NDS game cards of various sizes in use by the developers, and reasearch on bigger sized cards with comparable data transfer speeds are probably still going on. The first NDS games came on relatively small sized cards compared to the ones used by developers today. Actually you can even see it in the games themselves, the more recent ones tend to have more content than the older ones. The first Taiko no Tatsujin on NDS had 35 songs, the second one (released nine months later) had 50 songs and an extensive adventure mode. Or think of Daigasso Band Brothers. The first one needed a GBA port expansion pack to add 31 additional songs, the second one has a feature allowing the player to download 100 additional songs directly onto the card.

So my guess, especially since they released 2nd kiss between 1st love and its ‘remake’, is that the size of the available cartridges simply increased between both releases and they are now taking advantage of that. Since the game had a PS2 version as well, they probably had all voices recorded back in 2002 but had to cut lots of them for the DS version since space limitations. So a new release featuring full voice over actually makes sense here, not like other companies who withhold full voice versions in some naughty fashion to get people to pay two times for the same game on the same platform…

ahhh, I love them for this. hopefully they will add in one or two extra senarios though. Now lets hope they will remake the second one as well. Or make a new one.

I definitely would recommend the first game though.

An English release is probably pretty unlikely. If there was, there probably wouldn’t be any new voice acting since there is just so much in the game.

@matty: The guy in the picture above is Madoka. He’s probably my favorite in this entry (which is why I searched for an image of him for this) because he’s friendly, has a bit of an accent and is voiced by the guy who also did the voice of Shigure in Fruits Basket.

Luciano was pretty cool – he was the one I went for first in Princess Debut.

I think you’re right though – I think that this, and other similar games geared towards girls, would find a definite audience in the US. I have a feeling that the upcoming Vampire Knight DS game is going to be a huge hit as well.

I think they decided to do the remake just because both original TMGS DS games did so well. It seems like the DS version of otome games are very well received (last I checked the Vitamin Y game was one of the top DS titles on Amazon.co.jp).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an original TokiMemo DS port as well – it may be worth keeping an eye on.

Bah, remaking DS games doesn’t sound like a good idea, especially if the former was already a port of a PS2 game. Reminds me of Koei and their ‘Full Voice Version’ of an Angelique game that got ported to PSP only months later. I’d rather have them remake the first TokiMemo (i.e. the one with girls) for the DS. I know they’ve lazily ported it to the PSP already, but here’s hoping! I already got angry when they announced Disgaea would be ported to PSP instead of NDS, but in the end it arrived there nevertheless while Disgaea2 got no portable version, so miracles do happen.
