Gears of War 2 Getting Localized For Japan

By Spencer . December 22, 2008 . 12:23pm

gow2 Gears of War 2 banned in Japan? No way. Despite rumblings of being “indefinitely” not available Microsoft wouldn’t miss out on selling Gears of War 2 in Japan. As a niche title for a small console base Gears of War didn’t do bad in Japan. In the future Microsoft of Japan will release a properly localized version of Gears 2 with Japanese dialogue and perhaps some censorship. Cutting off heads doesn’t roll well over there. Of course Locust hunters in Japan have the option of skipping the Japanese version and tracking down a copy of the region free Asian version to satisfy their bloodlust. Since we already have Gears of War 2 I only hope this announcement means more rib tickling viral videos from Microsoft of Japan’s advertising department.

Gears of War is one of the stupidest series ever created in videogaming. PERIOD! Stupid story, stupid characters, stupid everything. Yet, people still buy and play this mindless garbage. *shrugs*

The US version of Gears of War 2 is region free as well, just like GoW1 and most US Xbox games, so some Jpn importers got the US ver. on day 1 when the game stores cfm’ed the copy is playable.

If I’m not dying to play a title, I usually try to wait for the Jpn ver. because it would include both Eng. and Jpn dub. But I was anxious to play the next installment and got the Limited Edition w/ the artbook and free DLC.

I have the Jpn ver. of GoW, sometimes I re-play the single player campaign in harder difficulty w/ Jpn dialogue and it feels like a diff experience. I also have the Jpn ver. of Heavenly Sword too, it has both Eng. and Jpn dialogue, but only Jpn text.

Even though Eng. is the primary language (John “Wakka/Bender” Dimaggio is awesome as Marcus Fenix), the Jpn dub for these big titles are pretty stellar.

Do you know if the US Prince of Persia sports the Jpn dub?

Vanillaware You don’t know how big marketing, advertising and viral marketing for this game its everywhere in the US and Europe and in internet forums, thats why its selling, even thought its sales in the latest NPD is disappointing.

It’s also an incredibly fun game to play…

    Not at all.

Its not possible for people who play GoW2 in Japan with a region-free game to get DLC.
