Disgaea 3 DLC Sneaks Into Sonys PlayStation Store Update

We’ve been mentioning downloadable Disgaea 3 characters on Siliconera for months now and at last NIS America comes through with the first pack. Adell, Rozalin, and the Nekomata monster can be yours for $4.99 or purchased separately for $1.99/$1.99/99 cents respectively (thanks for the tip Volcynika!!).

Interestingly, the characters available on the PlayStation Store differ from the press release NIS America sent us. Pram, Zetta, Hanako, and Taro aren’t for sale yet so perhaps we’re getting them in the future. On further inspection Souichirou, a character from the Japan only logic questioning horror series Hayarigami, isn’t on that list either. In Japan Souichirou came out the same month as Hanako and Taro which makes me wonder if we’re getting him or not. Since Souichiro isn’t recognizable here I don’t think anyone except the most diehard NIS fans will miss him.

Peer into the future and see what other cameo characters Japan already has.

Souichiro – Taro – Hanako

Prier – Yukimaru – Tink

Zetta – Pram – Marjoly

Captain Gordon – Jennifer – Thursday

Soul Nomad Heroine – Gig – Dragon – Hero Prinny

Kurtis – Prinny Kurtis – Mid Boss – Plenair

Emperor Royal King Dark III

@Simon – No. You get a free wallpaper or theme though.

Yeah, I saw the PR and was confused how they included characters not in the store update.

Except for the in press release, I’m not sure if they mention the theme that comes with the bundle at all in the store (I might be wrong, since I’m only 90% sure). It’s funny because it appears the bundle is two cents more expensive than getting them separately. The theme just appears to be a wallpaper anyway (why is it a premium theme?). I see no changes to XMB icons or sounds, or at least haven’t noticed any in the ten seconds I tried it out. I guess it’s worth it for two cents.

Hopefully, this isn’t the full list of DLC that’ll ever come out in North America.

    @Alice
I’m guessing you didn’t play the post-game for Disgaea 3?

So, not only are they making you pay extra for the full game, the extra is characters with no use in the main quest, only there so you have something to do while you’re grinding for 500 hours to level everyone up to 9999 just for the sake of obsessive completeness.

Making you pay mana points just to get abilities killed Disgaea 3 for me anyway. It’s bad enough in 1 and 2 how you have to constantly go out of your way to give kill shots to low level people you either just created or reincarnated. Now if you choose not to grind, as I do, you have way fewer and weaker abilities. Also they keep putting Rasberyl and her cronies on the map stealing the kill shots you set up for your level 1 people. It’s like they tried as hard as they could to make it harder to stay strong without grinding.

There’s only so much prep that can be forced on you before you throw your arms up and say screw it. Disgaea 1 and 2 were just below that line. Disgaea 3 is above it.

    Glad the DLC is starting.

I hope we do get that guy that came with Taro & Hanako. Or if not, at least a brand new cameo character in his place.

NISA should not go down the path of taking stuff out of games ever again. Especially now since many fans are still sore over the Rhapsody situation.
