Siliconera Speaks Up: What are you playing?

Siliconera Speaks Up: What are you playing?

Many people are lucky enough to have winter break from school or a vacation from their jobs. Cold weather is like Mother Nature’s way of telling us to stay inside, bundle up, and spend some time gaming. What are you playing during your winter break?

Siliconera Speaks Up: What are you playing?Jenni: This winter break I’ll mainly be catching up. I’ll (hopefully) finish up my first playthrough of Persona 4 and finally finish my first playthrough of La Corda d’Oro for the PSP. I’m also going to be spending a little bit of time each day paying off loans and creating a perfect town in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

A friend of mine recently picked up Guitar Hero III for the Wii, and I’m sure at her Holiday and New Years Eve parties I’ll take part in some guitar battles or duets.

Siliconera Speaks Up: What are you playing?Spencer: The nice part about early January is you can catch up with the holiday surge. I want to spend more time with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. It’s a fun game, but it came out around the same time as so many other games I haven’t given it as much attention. Part of the reason is you can play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for half an hour and put it down without having to worry about reaching the next save point. The pick up and play style is nice, but since Tatsunoko vs. Capocm doesn’t force you into a timesink I haven’t put tons of time into it.

I also have Ar Tonelico II lying around that I haven’t gotten to. Don’t worry you’ll hear about it soon! And then there’s KORG DS-10 which isn’t a game, but a cool music program to play with. It’s really technical though so learning to use it is “the game”. I should probably get to Infinite Undiscovery too. I started it, but put it down. Actually, should I get back to it? Is it worth my time?

Siliconera Speaks Up: What are you playing?Louise: Thanks to the BF being out of town, I finally have the time to devote hours upon hours to my current game of choice: Persona 4. It really is the type of game where you need a chunk of time to play because once I start, I don’t want to stop. It’s always, “Ok, just one more floor” or “Just let me get to the next day so I can develop my S. Link with so-and-so more.” The only “breaks” the game has are when you defeat a story boss early and you have to wait for the next event to show up; those are the only times I turn off my PS2 to take a break.

When I’m taking a break for P4, I play my 360. Winter break means more of my Xbox Live friends are on during the day, so I usually join them for a game of Left 4 Dead or Gears of War 2. I prefer playing these games with people I know instead of being at the mercy of random matching. Most of the players I get matched up with with random matching make me wonder why I’m paying for the online service at all.

I am also playing catch up right now. I’m finishing up Persona 3 (though I’ll still need to play the Answer) and Chrono Trigger. This afternoon I marathoned through about four ranks in No More Heroes, so that’ll be finished within the week. I’m also playing Persona 4 here and there (I’m currently in Yukiko’s Castle, so I’m just starting), but I want to finish P3 before I really jump into it.

I’ll also probably play some Super Mario Galaxy once I’m done with NMH.

On the PC side of things, I’m playing Left 4 Dead several times a week and a few “casual” games like Peggle Nights, Puzzle Quest, and Bejeweled Twist for when I’m listening to podcasts.

I currently have about 9 games in my to do pile but for the most part it is between Sonic Unleashed for PS3 and Animal Crossing: CF and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom on Wii.

I’m a one game at a time kind of guy. Also I usually finish a game before starting a new one(OCD).

I just started playing Blue Dragon, so far I’m enjoying it. It’s not the best game, and the story is not spectacular, but it has Charm. Definitely worth the 15$ I paid for it. I really like the exploration aspect of it, as there are tons of things to find.

After BD I will probably play The Last Remnant.

I wrote a long “to-do” list before Christmas but ended up deviated from that.. now playing..

    1) Riz-zoawd – the graphics and fairy tale world felt charming at first, but the on-path track ball running and DQ-like battles wears off the fun after a little while. I hope to finish it.

    2) Mass Effect – finally plunged myself into this WRPG, mind blown away by the huge galaxy world. I love the tons of RPG dialogue choices, but I suck at the shooting parts.

3)GTA 4 — too badass, just want to keep playing to move Niko up the rank of gangster

    4) Operation Darkness — the long battles and wonky camera makes me weary of “tackling” every new mission, dying after an hour is no fun.

You should keep playing Infinite Undiscovery Spence. At first I found it boring after the castle stage at the beginning, but it gets more fun later and I’m pretty far at the game now, just got side-tracked. I stopped P4 after saving Yukiko too since other games beckon.

SomeDude: Interesting :o never heard of it but will look into it. From what I’ve played (at a frieds house, american 360) it’s a fantastic niche title. I do love any kind of virtual Collectable Card Game though :)

I’m surprised by all the people playing P3. For all our readers playing it, did you start it because of P4? Or are you just trying to finish it up before diving into P4?
