Mitigating Disappointment On Not Seeing Final Fantasy XIII Until 2010

In an interview with Reuters Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada said overseas launches of the latest Final Fantasy game will come in April 2010 or later. Meanwhile Japan is on track to get Final Fantasy XIII and a playable demo in 2009.

The short story is North America won’t get Final Fantasy XIII until 2010. Bummer. However, we don’t know when in 2009 Japan will see Final Fantasy XIII in stores. They might be playing Final Fantasy XIII in June or they might not. Probably not. Japan may have to wait until November or December 2009, which means an English version of Final Fantasy XIII could be right around the corner in summer 2010 given Square Enix’s usual six month localization gap for big releases. From a strictly business standpoint it seems like Square Enix wants to book the profits from Final Fantasy XIII in Japan in one fiscal year and worldwide sales in another.

Hopefully, Square Enix will have some kind of treat for their international fans after all this waiting. Perhaps we’ll get bonus content like in Final Fantasy VII which Square Enix can later turn around and sell as Final Fantasy XIII International Fabulous Crystal Edition in Japan.

Well I can't say I'm angry because I saw this coming...... I wonder if this game will be better than Final Fantasy X. (my number one favorite game ^_^) This makes me think though.... Does this mean we will get Versus 13 and Agito in 2011???

Well on the 360 side, at least there have been and still are a decent number of other J-RPGs to mess around with.

This is stupid. Why should we, PS3 users, wait for the development for XBOX 360 to finish first? This gotta be Microsoft's Tactic to topple Sony.

A bit dissapointed but not really surprised. Not that it matters that much as I will be getting this in japanese anyway.

Oh well, i got plenty of RPGs to play anyway. Ar tonelico 1 and 2, and odin sphere. Oh before that, I gotta finish Namco X Capcom, and Riviera!!

I loled at "Final Fantasy XIII International Fabulous Crystal Edition".

I'm really disappointed. I've been waiting for this game for ages. There was never doubt that the game would come overseas; it's just taking forever. I was going to pick up a PS3 when it came out, but it looks like I might do so when Shirokishi Monogatari does instead.

Like others have expressed, this is no surprised. I mean they even hinted this at last year's E3.

I also lol'd at "Final Fantasy XIII International Fabulous Crystal Edition" because if history is to teach us something, IT WILL HAPPEN!

Maybe I should just wait for that version instead...

I know a better version is bound to come out, but I always can't wait for big games like this and have to get it on day 1, so whenever the release date, most likely getting the Jpn ver first. Then I might get the US 360 version w/ achievement :) Pls just let it be more fun than FF 12..

I think we all knew that FFXIII wouldn't come out 2009 for America/Europe. I'd be willing to bet it's barely going to make 2009 for Japan.

I just hope that the porting is extremely fast. If the 360 port does take a little longer than just the localization, I hope Square releases the PS3 version as soon as localization is finished.

This is thanks to microsoft, because they want that the game appears at the same time as the ps3 version of the game, for that reason if square enix finishes and releases in japan in november/december, they have to do a shity version to the 360 and that can take a very loooooong time, but well we allways have the imports hehehe.
