Idea Factory Takes A Stab At 2D Action Games

When I hear the name Idea Factory I think of visual novels and Spectral something strategy RPGs. Sometimes innuendo infused maid games on the Wii, but not action games. Anything, but action games.

Now, let me introduce you to an action game being developed by Idea Factory and Vingt et un Systems – they worked with D3 on the Adventures of Darwin. The title translates into “I Will Protect You” so we’ll use with that. Aside from the name we don’t know much about Idea Factory’s DS project which is scheduled to come out in Japan on May 12 under their new Otomate Forte label. The screenshots make I Will Protect You look like kind of like a low-res 3D Metroidvania game with map marking, though. Might be interesting especially considering publishers like Yuke’s are picking up Idea Factory’s stuff these days.

I hope this doesn’t end up as a Castlevania rip off.

    I hope this isn’t a castlevania ripoff.

Vingt et un Systems also did the awesome Sega Ages PS2 Virtua Racing remake and Decathlete Collection.

    Castlevania for yaoi fangirls?

Uh…at least I can say I’ve never seen anything like it before…

I don’t think yaoi, I would bet on straight pairings if it’s under their otomate label.

… I’m actually looking forward to this.

This game actually *is* for fangirls. And thedevelopment team making it is entirely female.
Otomate Forte is a label of RPG’s and action games for girls. Idea Factory already have another label of games for females (what english speakers call “dating sims”/visual novels) called Otomate, and this is a new label, called Otomate Forte, to signify that it will have more heavy gameplay elements than games in their existing Otomate label and will have action and RPG’s game (except targeted to females) instead of just reading text and making choice like in “visual novels”.

No idea on whether there will be any yaoi though, but it will surely be heavy with bishounen action.

I love side scrolling action games more than anything, so I’ll definitely keep an eye on this one.

Unfortely, looks like a Castlevania rip-off.
BUT, they can make a good Metroidevania-like-game. Use a good story allied with remarcable characters and good music…

‘Good’ and ‘Idea Factory’ are rarely used in the same sentence, unless they contradict each other.

that depends on what you judge them on. As far as otome games go IF (otomate) games can be considered quite good. besides those though, I don’t believe I’ve played many of their games so i can’t judge them on it.
