Space Invaders Extreme 2 Is Real, Really Coming Out In March

Space Invaders Extreme 2 Is Real, Really Coming Out In March Nintendo of Japan should be updating their March 2009 release calendar soon. They forgot to put in Space Invaders Extreme 2 which will make it into stores on March 26 just like some retailers leaked.

The sequel doesn’t look much different from Space Invaders Extreme. A new bingo grid leads players into a bonus rounds and during multiplayer matches you can make a giant UFO annoy your opponent. Otherwise Space Invaders Extreme 2 retains the look and feel of Space Invaders Extreme which is enough to make this a must buy game for me.

Unless you need another dose of psychedelic aliens I wouldn’t worry about importing it in March. Square Enix brought over Space Invaders Extreme so the follow up should get a release here sometime in 2009. Unfortunately for PSP owners Space Invaders Extreme 2 is only a DS game. Well, that’s until Square Enix ports it to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2010.

    2010?! Huh . . .
Well, I loved the first game. The whole look and feel …esquiset!
There are quite a few games coming out that go for that retro/modern hook. Not that I'm complaining, but it makes me wonder.

Hmm, I wonder why they didn't make a PSP version. Not that it matters to me, I'd much rather play on my DS. I wonder if this still has paddle support?

I was just kidding about the 2010 part, but given the way Square Enix is pushing these things along it seems like Space Invaders Extreme 2 will be on consoles (XBLA / PS3) then.

Space Invaders Extreme – released early 2008 in Japan
    Space Invaders Extreme XBLA / PS3 – slated 2009

    Space Invaders Extreme 2 XBLA / PS3 – ???

DS only?! But the PSP version of the first one had the better music, despite that the DS one made for a more engrossing experience by making the shots and what-have-you sound like part of the current stage's song!

    OOOOHHHH…

I think Nintendo leaked this unintentionally at their retailer meeting (where they announced dates for Metroid Prime and Rittai Picross), so that's why it wasn't up on their website.
