Who Is Attending E3 This Year? Atlus And Friends

Who Is Attending E3 This Year? Atlus And Friends E3 will be getting back to business – the noisy, glitzy side of the video game business on June 2 – 4. Not only is the ESA loosing requirements for attendees they are also opening their arms to exhibitors. Take a trip back to E3 2006 and retailers with booths selling everything from PSP FM transmitters to junk electronics were hidden in Kentia Hall.

We might not go back to those days, but E3 will have retailers. A partial list of attendees has companies like DDR Game which sells dance pads for a Konami game I’m sure you’re aware of. Also returning to E3 after skipping the show for a year are Activision and Atlus. The list is missing some publishers, though. NIS America, D3 Publisher, Temco (well they may be in Koei’s booth), and XSEED who first attended E3 last year are not on the initial list.

Here are the publishers already committed to the spectacle trade show. Guess what they might be showing in the comments.

Well with Atlus USA's wild 2009 lineup, they definitely belong there. Should be more interesting this year than last.

Bet you Atlus shows off that RPG they're supposed to be developing for the 360. Depending on when Captivate is, Capcom may or may not show off anything significant, aside from another build of Bionic Commando if it isn't already out by then.

Nintendo…Sin & Punishment 2 will be there no doubt, as will Pikmin 3. I'll play it safe and not predict any more showings from them. They always disappoint before making you cry with happiness. Every single time.

Sony Online Entertainment will show off The Agency no doubt.

Namco…if they have a heart, Fragile. Plus some stuff from their new Western studio no doubt. I recall reading something about having 7 Xbox 360 games in development, so some of those no doubt. EA…a new Mirror's Edge game, but I'm reluctant to state which platform I think it will be for. The new Need for Speeds, too.

And…wait, what? Midway is attending? *cough* OK, Square Enix…the FFXIIIs no doubt. Dragon Quest IX. MAYBE Crystal Bearers. Square tend to make big announcements at their Japanese shows, and I doubt it will be any different this year. Maybe they'll announce something coming out of their studio in Los Angeles.

SEGA…The Conduit probably, since it has a June release date. It would benefit from the attention it would get at E3. A…new…Panzer Dragoon? *drowns in nostalgic fanboy tears*

Right, Ubisoft…Red Steel 2, new Tom Clancy game, that TMNT fighter. Assassin's Creed 2. Ubisoft have a lot they could show at E3. I can't wait for their showing. Shaun White 2 will probably be announced, too.

    That's all I've got.

Hopefully, Nintendo will show off Made in Ore (or whatever they call it here) and announce an English version of Prof. Layton 2. Capcom will probably officially announce an English version of Gyakuten Kenji. And if the stars align, Sega will have a new 2D Sonic game and a localized version of Pole's Big Adventure, and Konami will announce Gradius 6. Oh, and Namco might announce a Wii version of Katamari or something related. Or at least I hope all of this happens.

Thousand Arms 2. It'll be officially titled “Two Thousand Arms” and star Meis' harem children.

…I'm kidding, but wishful thinking is still a wish.

    Huh…

I wonder if being a movie critic qualifies for a free pass to a game show…

Rofl. Most likely…a big fat hell-no.

So E3 is returning to being the Las Vegas of the industry instead of the Tech Demos in a Hotel Closet of the industry? I have mixed feelings about that.

…if they have a heart, Fragile.

I wish I could emphasize this so much harder. With a three story neon sign that never goes out. Even the falling sparks form patterns that coalesce into letters and words: “Fragile. Please.” Yeah. Fragile is the sort of thing that could permanently settle my Wii fence sitting once and for all.

  • CARBONDOG

    LOL, QBasic posts here.

  • matty

I'm not too surprised NIS America isn't on that list, yet.

    Fragile. Please dear God, Fragile.

I haven't wanted to play a game as much as I want to play Fragile in a long, long time.

  • lostinblue

it has 5 seconds of yaoi overtones though:

I want to play it (not for that, but for the rest, that doesn't bother me at all), but the fact that, that scene is in tells me Namco will probably skip it altogether due to it alone.

  • memoryofwater

I'd say it still has a chance. One of the central story arcs in Xenosaga features a (pretty tastefully handled) gay romance. Sure, each of the games was (oddly, inconsistently) censored for US release but Namco still gave it a shot for localization. I'm more worried about Nintendo not wanting to be associated with it; more because of its emphasis on narrative than because it has a ghost boy makeout scene, and that might clash with Nintendo's current image of pick up and play games. Plus Xenosaga had the cult status of Xenogears to carry it, while Fragile's a completely original title by a not very well known developer and it's off the radar completely for a lot of people.

    Still, fingers crossed. Toes too.

  • lostinblue

Nintendo has nothing to do with “that”, it's all up to Namco. Nintendo does a lot more than just pick and play games, and that includes even some adult games in between (for instance, they actively co-developed Fatal Frame 4 recently) and encourage adult/core content on the platform.

Besides there's Bully Wii too and it's polemic “gay” scenes. ESRB is the only thing that can take issue wether a content should be published or not, Nintendo doesn't go there,.

All that worries me regarding this theme is really… If Namco has the balls to do it.
