Want to experience the story of Metal Gear Solid 4 without sneaking inside enemy lines wearing an oil drum? Then play Metal Gear Solid Touch!
Konami’s iPhone Metal Gear Solid game borrows the graphics and plot of Metal Gear Solid 4 and converts it into a finger tapping, light gun game. A red ring fills up similar to Virtua Cop or Time Crisis to let you know who is about to attack. Players point and poke enemies to make Old Snake shoot them. If solider is too tiny to shoot you can pinch the screen to zoom in and give him the finger of death. After every stage players earn Drebin Points which can be used to unlock 40 unique wallpapers.
It sounds like Konami will initially release Metal Gear Solid Touch in two parts. The official site explains an advance release version will include the first half of Metal Gear Solid 4’s story. Users will be to update the advance release and download the second half for free. Konami has not announced an exact date for the advance release version or the final version containing both acts. The timeline for Metal Gear Solid Touch’s launch is a vague “coming soon”.
Since Metal Gear Solid Touch is a rehash it may not be the mobile Metal Gear Solid game fans have been craving for. As a mobile phone game it looks high quality and has some neat ideas. Perhaps, Metal Gear Solid Touch might be better served if Konami ports the game as a WiiWare or PlayStation Network title with Guncon.
