Cross Edge Mashup Party Won’t Happen Until May

By Spencer . February 26, 2009 . 3:46pm

When NIS America officially announced Cross Edge (aka X-Edge) it was supposed to come out in March. Since NIS America hasn’t sent us any screenshots of Etna linking up with half a dozen other characters they worked with we asked them what’s up.

The short story is Cross Edge won’t be in stores this March. The release has been rescheduled two months later on May. Why the wait? Something about trophies. Wait, trophies? Those weren’t in the version Japan got…

Update: NIS America sent over a follow up e-mail saying the exact date has not been finalized. The plan is still on for a May release, though.

Though if they didn’t submit it to Sony prior to 2009, then yes, it would have to have trophies.

it means they’recutting stuff like their ps2 game :/

    • But… they’re adding trophies (?)

  • I knew this was going to happen. The initial interview where it was confirmed coming to the US was out of context. We were going to get an official date set in March, but since we’ve all been detectives, we learn a few days early.

By the way, RosenQueen is going to start taking pre-orders in early April.

    awesomeness.. trophies in this game

Maybe the addition of the trophies is NISA’s way of making up for cutting content in AT2 and Rhapsody. At this point, I’d rather wait a few more months for them to properly bug test the game and spiffy up the localization.

I’m crossing my fingers for a Pleinair cameo in this game. <3

Trophies are nice, but they must make sure that the game actually works first. The game really needs to be properly translated & tested. And no cutting content or voice acting.

NISA has a lot of customer trust they need regain right now.

    • This is a good point and we hope to talk to NIS about this.

Trophies are now REQUIRED in all PS3 games as of 2009.

This game seems to have a bit of hype in forums and such. This is a serious question, but for those who have played it or read about it, is it actually good? I know these mash-up games are great for fanservice, but I have never heard of one ever being truly great.

    • I’ve still got the demo from the Japanese PSN Store on my PS3. I go back and play it every now and then. It’s very interesting. I mean, it’s not oozing with large-budget effects or anything, but the gameplay is pretty solid. Assembling parties that will chain attacks together… the attack animations changing and getting more powerful… it’s a pretty fun system. Blends SRPG with standard turn-based RPG in a pretty good way. I definitely think it’s good, but it’s not something the mainstream will probably hop on board with. Check out some youtube videos of x-edge if you’re curious.

  • LOL Spencer. According to Todays’ magic box frontpage…

“- Siliconera has postponed the US release date of the PS3 simulation RPG Cross Edge from March to May 19, 2009.”

Didn’t know siliconera was in the business of publishing games now ;)
