Mastiff Publishing A Mysterious Tactical RPG For PSP?

By Spencer . March 3, 2009 . 7:42am

trpg Before they became known for Moon and Major League Eating: The Game (ugh) Mastiff brought us quirky games from Japan like Gurumin and La Pucelle Tactics before NIS America set up shop. Are they going back to their roots?

Gamefly says yes with a listing for a generically named “Tactical RPG” coming out for the PSP. While there is a healthy supply of tactical RPGs for the PSP most of them have been picked up. What game does Mastiff have hidden in their lineup? One possibility is Vantage Master Portable since Mastiff worked with Falcom in the past, but we haven’t seen Mastiff pick up any Falcom titles aside from Gurumin so take this speculation with a grain of salt. Another thought is this might not be a localized game. Mastiff could commission the development of a brand new tactical RPG for the PSP too. In any case it looks like PSP owners will have another tactics game to look forward too in the future.

PLEASE oh PLEASE let this be Vantage Master Portable *prays*

  • VMP would be AWESOME but I’d still prefer Brandish or Zwei over it. I mean we can always play the free Windows version, right?

Either way, glad to see they’re back on the right track. Though part of me wishes they’d keep the name “Tactical RPG” ! That would be so avant-garde…

i wonder if it will be a remake of Lapucelle Tactics. i still have the game and strategy guide from the ps2. too bad i don’t own a PSP 0_0.

I doubt they’d commission one. They’re a very small company. I know NISA actually commissioned one, Dragoneer’s Aria, but that flopped and instead comissioned a DS game (that Witch’s Tale)

I think Vantage Master is a pretty good guess, given their previous ties to Falcom and the likely ease of localization (since there’s already one in English for PC)
