Namco Bandai Gets Serious With Courtroom Drama Games

By Spencer . March 6, 2009 . 8:55am

nbgi Taking a cue from the Phoenix Wright series Namco Bandai is developing a courtroom drama game of their own. Yuzai X Muzai (Guilty X Innocent) puts players in a different position. You are a juror and need to analyze the presented evidence to decide if the accused is innocent or guilty. To keep the courtroom feel authentic a former prosecutor was hired to keep to supervise the game.

There are four scenarios to play and it sounds like each one will have a different path depending on the verdict you pick. If you feel like your language skills are up to par (this is going to be a text heavy game!) you can import Yuzai X Muzai on May 21. Since this was just announced for Japan it’s too early to tell if Namco Bandai will localize this, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I’d like to see them try to make a 12 Angry Men game. :P

Friend of mine has been a jury member before. According to him, it’s “worse than going to the dentist for a root canal.”

So…why are they making a game about this again?

I’m very interested in this game, since in the end of Apollo Justice they kind of introduced the juror system. I hope the art style would be attractive, from the above screen shot is hard to tell.

I’m not sure if being on a jury is bad per se, my colleague was once away for 2 weeks for a trial that he described as “fascinating”; attempt in assaulting a police officer, and the defendant (w/ injury in a wheelchair) was eventually found guilty. Maybe the part that sucks is he’s gone 2 weeks w/o pay?

Come on guys, shame on anyone who didn’t buy original copy of Phoenix Wright atone by buying two copies so chances of games like these coming here increase.

I only bought the Jpn copies since they have both Jpn & Eng. Actually the only Phoenix Wright I bought the US version for is the first one because of the nice cover, but after that they followed the Jpn format. If they had continued to use the different artwork I would’ve collected the rest of the US ver. Well I got Apollo Justice in Eng too even though I own Gyakuten Saiban 4, so I think I did my part :)..

Not sure how good this game is going to be, at least we have Gyakuten Kenji until GS5 rolls around. The intro in the flash demo was pretty fun.

Capcom should have released the double language ones after the US release, their decision wasn’t on our favor.

I don’t know about Namco’s idea of hiring a prosecutor, because if the game is too realistic it probably won’t be fun (PW is not realistic, which is a part of why it is so fun).

Also, I second the opinion that this won’t see a stateside release. If it was any other company I could remain hopefully, but Namco has a horrible record with DS games :(
