Atlus Forms Alliance With Sting

Atlus Forms Alliance With Sting Sting and Atlus must have avoided the friendship ruining game Dokapon Kingdom. The two companies are pals. Moving forward they’re going to be best buddies. Atlus is now responsible for publishing and marketing Sting developed games in Japan.

Not a huge paradigm shift for North America where Atlus USA released Sting titles like Baroque and Yggdra Union domestically. In simple terms if Sting develops a game in Japan, Atlus Japan will publish it, and since their parent company is involved chances are good — no very good Atlus USA will publish the game overseas. Now to wait for the next episode of the Dept. Heaven series and a downloadable version of Baroque Shooting.

So what exactly happened then? Did Atlus JPN buy Sting, should we call them Atlusting from now on?

  • maxchain

I feel almost like I helped, having bought both versions of Riviera that came out here for some reason! YOU'RE WELCOME, STING.

Hahaha! It wasn't a buyout. It's a distribution/marketing deal. Atlus acts as publisher for Sting to let Sting focus on development. It could lead to a buyout in the future, but now its more like how D3 Publisher distributes Tomy's Naruto titles over here.

Not surprised at all but still happy nevertheless.

It's surprising considering Sting is already owned by Genterprise, who're a game publisher themselves. It makes me wonder if Atlus will be distributing for the entire TYO group companies now (Sting, 5pb, Genterprise)?

  • ShadowYuri

Not surprising, considering the games really uniques the compagnies both develop ; but this is SO great ! Hope to see more games of Sting on DS/PSP.

  • Constraint

so in essence, more games, more time, more polishing, right? :)

  • ReturnOfSomeDude

No, it's none of those things directly. It's just shared financial responsibility. It potentially allows Sting to be a little more comfortable taking risk in this tough economic climate. It might actually mean less time and less polish due to a third party's money now pressuring them to get stuff out on time in accordance with THEIR schedule.
