Capcom Putting More PS1 Games On PSN

By Spencer . March 17, 2009 . 7:56am

image Every few weeks we mention new games joining Japan’s PlayStation Archives collection. Now their list is large with a blend of classics and obscure PsOne games. Outside of a few key releases like Suikoden the PlayStation Classics section is hardly spoken of overseas.

Capcom plans to change this by releasing more downloadable PsOne games in the future. Christian Svensson, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development, says a batch of PsOne titles have been submitted to Sony for approval.

Specific games and a timeline were not mentioned, but a few months ago the ESRB rated Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 as PS3/PSP games. Those could be some of the games. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo is also rated as PSP title by the ESRB so this is another possibility. I’m hoping for both of the Mega Man Legends games. After all, these were released in Japan on UMD along with Breath of Fire III.

What Capcom game would you like to see? Before you answer peruse the list of PsOne games published by Capcom and rated by the ESRB. And then cross out all the games that have X-Men, Marvel, and Mickey in them.

JoJo and One Piece were also licenses, they’re pretty unlikely imo.

I don’t have a PS3 or PSP, but Strider 2 and the 3 Legends games would theoretically top my list.

    • Marllone

Actually One Piece Mansion is a puzzle game that has nothing to do with anime/manga One Piece :)

  • VersusDMC

Dino crisis, resident evil and the Vs games would be instant purchases for me if they were under 10 bucks. And i believe that Project Justice and Code Veronica are Dreamcast games…well veronica did come out on Ps2 but still not a PSone game.

    • You’re right. Actually, there are other odd things on the list like Mega Man Battle & Chase rated as a PsOne game by the ESRB when that only came out in Europe. Hmm…

      • jarrodand

It got an esrb rating (and was fully localized) before it was canned by SCEA iirc. Even saw print ads in the US too, it was all really last second.

Maybe we’ll get it as the first PS Classics import?

        • Well that’s one mystery solved :) Still strange to see Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Project Justice slip in on the ESRB as PsOne games.

  • Mega Man Legends 2 and Tron Bonne please. I own the first game but the rest seem to become rare. D:

    • Volcynika

My friend loved the hell out of Tron Bonne.

  • Volcynika

    Breath of Fire anything!

    • Mazen

Yes also they should make a new one too.

  • All MegaMan games. All Resident Evil games. Pretty much the only Capcom properties I’ve followed since their respective inceptions.

  • If they could get the license for JoJo’s Bizzarre Adventure back I’d love to see that but it probably won’t happen. And Rival Schools would be sweet, but do you think they’d put the whole two disc’s worth of content on PSN?

  • Chow

I’d like to see all those Survival Horror/Adventure titles be put up. Same thing with RPGs and Platforming games.

Obscure games like One Piece Mansion would be a nice touch.

But I wouldn’t want to see “gimped” versions of arcade games on there. These typically are most of their fighting games, because of the memory limitations of the systems at the time. However, Rival School should be a definite addition, since I believe it had enough extra features to make it worthwhile.

  • SpoonerismsRock

Yep, im with the resident evils vote aswell.

  • im getting a PSP go wntd to find what games coming
