Nintendo hasn’t told us what DSiWare games will launch with the system and they won’t tell us until next week. We have a fair idea of what could come out since we looked at a lot of downloadable DSi games from Japan.
Mobile phone developer, Gameloft’s DSiWare line up is an enigma. The ESRB gives a huge hint by stealth announcing American Popstar Road to Celebrity and Real Soccer 2009. Both series originated on cell phones so they may be converting or upgrading existing code. Here are the ESRB descriptions for each of them with screenshots from the related cell phone game.
This is a social simulation game in which players follow the storyline of a young girl who aspires to become a pop star. Players can engage in a mixture of musical challenges (e.g., dance battles and playing guitar), social objectives (e.g., developing a friendship or scaring a rival), and even maintenance of health and hygiene. During the course of the game, players will need to guide their characters into bathrooms in order to relieve themselves, which is depicted by a toilet paper icon and an opaque star covering the character.
This is a soccer simulation game in which players can select soccer teams (e.g., national, club, and “legendary’ teams”), customize stadium venues, create and run plays, and compete in exhibition matches and championship cups. One mode of play allows players to be the coach, while a training mode assists players in improving their skills through penalty kicks.
Exciting stuff right? It might not be my cup of tea, but Gameloft’s Popstar game could sell well.
