Ys Seven Has Three Playable Characters

By Spencer . March 30, 2009 . 1:45am

Adol and his usual brawny companion Dogi are joined by Aisha, a female wanderer. While Ys Seven has a trio of adventurers, you can only control one of them at a time. The Party Play system automatically puts the two characters you aren’t actively using in the hands of the computer. Looks like Falcom has Ys Seven set up to take advantage of ad-hoc multiplayer.

You can also notice another detail from the screens. Ys Seven took some cues from the hardened hero look Konami gave Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. Adol looks more proportional in Ys Seven than he does in Falcom’s other Ys games during battle, but in towns he and his friends are super deformed just like classic Ys.

  • I love all the characters, they are all awesome!

It’ll definitely have more than three playable characters. You can see Geis from Ys 6 in one of those screenshots as a party member, and the article makes it pretty clear that you’ll choose three people from a larger list that includes various characters such as Adol, Dogi and Aisha.

Not sure what I think. It certainly don’t “look” all that good but comparing it to a PC game is probably not fair. It just looks like the art has taken a pretty serious hit from Oath.

Hah, the switch between chibi and proportional is a little trippy! I wonder why they’re having such a hard time making up their mind for this game.

Multiplayer Ys sounds like a blast, for sure.

I actually dig the look of Konami’s Adol, but I’m wary of computer-controlled help. Why does everything have to emulate online / co-op games these days?
It would have been cooler to select your character on-the-fly, like Castlevania III.

Because in Japan on the PSP, it sells.

That was the reason for big sales of Monster Hunter. Phantasy Star Portable tapped into that vein for pretty decent sales, so did some game from Koei. Now Falcom is trying, apparently.

Ad-hoc multiplayer would be awesome. My only real complaint about Ys VI was the fact that it was a missed opportunity for an awesome co-op multiplayer experience.
