Valkyria Chronicles DLC Detached Next Week

By Spencer . April 8, 2009 . 10:50am

On April 16 the battle in Gallia rages on with three items of Valkyria Chronicles downloadable content. Hard EX mode, Edy’s mission, and Selvaria mission each cost $4.99 on the PlayStation Store. Not bad considering the Selvaria’s mission and Edy’s mission are priced lower than Japan. However, Hard EX mode is a bit more expensive at $4.99 opposed to 300 yen ($3). It seems like Sega USA opted for a one price fits all kinds of Valkyria Chronicles DLC plan.

Here is a quick rundown of the DLC and a batch of screenshots.

Hard EX Mode – fight your way once again through the entire Imperial army, where the enemies are more lethal and your main tank Edelweiss is unavailable. You’ll have to be more strategic in order to overcome your opponents.

Edy’s Mission “Enter the Edy Detachment” – six members have been separated from Squad 7 and on their journey to reunite with their squad, they stumble upon a tiny village under attack by the Imperial Army. Play as Edy and command your outnumbered team to defend the small village from annihilation.

Selvaria’s Mission “Behind Her Blue Flame”– Taking place right after the outbreak of Gallian battle lines, you play as Johann, a young and meek engineer assigned to Selvaria’s troop. See the action as it unfolds behind enemy lines and see the war play out through the eyes of the enemy.

Missed out on Valkyria Chronicles? Now is a good time to pick it up. The game is on sale at Gamestop for only $29.99, if you can track down a copy.

for the US it starts tomorrow, well according to the blog:

“A number of you have been asking about this on our weekend posts, and today SEGA has the answer. Beginning with tomorrow’s PlayStation Store update, gamers will be able to return to Gallia to fight some new EWII battles.”

  • Craiji

Scratch that blog updated, 16th it is

  • This is great. I’ve been looking for a reason to pop this game back in the PS3 after dominating it mercilessly months ago (that sounded a bit off), and aside from a trophy update, this’ll do the trick.

They’re doing a trophy update? I just popped in my Jpn disc and there’s no trophies (this should be ported to 360 w/ achievement Sony :P)

$5 are a bargain (except hard mode) compared to the 800 yen Selvaria mission, which would be even more since one needs to import a PSN point card, 5000 yen goes for ~$60.

      • Nope, no trophy update. Sorry if I wasn’t clear; I meant that aside from a trophy update, this DLC is the incentive I’ve needed to get back into the game.

Having a trophy update would be awesome, too, but I don’t think it’s likely =(

I stopped playing cause of game backlog, but maybe I’ll pick it up again and grab this after I finish.
Edy really gets a lot of attention huh? Whats her story?

  • Nekobo

Sweet, I’m definitely grabbing this. I need to finish this game, pronto.

The first episode of the anime just came out this week, too. Nice timing.

  • Paying more than a buck or two to download a Hard Mode that provides no new content, just ups the existing difficulty, always sounds odd to me. I wonder how well those actually sell.

I’m thinking out loud here, but I think it would be pretty awesome if a game had a DLC Hard Mode that stipulated something like, “If you can beat this mode in X hours or X lives, it’s free.” (Or rather, they reimburse your account for those purchase points.) It’s like those “free huge-ass steak, if you can finish it in one sitting” restaurant deals where the restaurant often makes more profit than loss from the dinners they give away. I think a lot of gamers would bite.

This is my second time buying it just for the dlc.
Both times new but The first time it was 60$ and the second time was yesterday for 30$. Thank god I know the managers they were holding the only copy they had for 30 dollars for me. There were 10 people that called the store looking for the game the day I picked it up. I bought both of my local gamestop’s copys.
