Filters Give Katamari Damacy Tribute A New Visual Style

By Spencer . April 10, 2009 . 8:04am

imageTired of Katamari Damacy’s blocky look? Katamari Damacy Tribute lets players alter the presentation with visual filters. You can collect Earth’s junk with cel-shaded, colored pencil or wood grain graphics. The PS3 game also supports full 1080p so you can clearly see the faces of all the cows before you roll them into a star.

Namco Bandai will release Katamari Damacy Tribute in Japan sometime this year. An international release has not been announced at this time.

It seems they really put a lot of work in this game compared to the latest ones.

    Wood grain looks especially cool.
  • Yeah, wood is my favorite one. It's a style not commonly used for games.
  • Colored Pencil looks nice. Wood Grain is interesting, but I think I'll stick to Classic Block.
It would fun of they came up with ideas like Invert, Haze, Metallic, Balloon, etc.
    Just go nuts!

    this actually looks pretty cool.

In love with the cel-shaded and colored pencil filters. Can't wait.

Alright! I don't care about the filters. But 1080p should be standard on PS3. Am I the only one whose heart sank upon hearing FF XIII was 720p @ 30fps?

Yes! I am so pumped, i wish that they made Beatiful Katamari with as much effort as this one! I just wish they had a release date on it...

This looks awesome, definate buy... Katamari is the greatest
  • Ooo~ I love the Colored Pencil effect, reminds me slightly of Valkyria Chronicles. Man, I love how PS3 is getting all these awesome looking cel-shaded games.
  • I remain skeptical. I do enjoy Katamari, but the last couple entries have been pretty uninspired. It'll take more than some visual filters to convince me this version will be any better. That said, those are some pretty cool filters.

I think I found my reason to buy a PS3.
