Fullmetal Alchemist Trailer Is Light On Action

By Spencer . April 13, 2009 . 9:06am

If you were expecting an alchemic action game prepare to be disappointed. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Prince of Dawn, which comes out in Japan this summer, doesn’t have Edward Elric transmuting junk to machine guns. As an adventure game it an original story written by Final Fantasy XIII director, Motomu Toriyama, and a fair amount of text box flipping.

Will Square Enix take a risk and release this overseas? They passed on the third PlayStation 2 game, Fullmetal Alchemist 3: The Girl Who Succeeded God.

Such a Shame, the Brawlers from PS2 were nice, not a 10/10 but nice anime games with exclusive anime clips.

The Only games I play in Japanese are Fighters x x *doesnt know any japanese*

  • Is this based on the original FMA anime or the new one? The Wii one is based on the new anime, so I’m staying the hell away from that.

I thought the new anime was supposed to be better because it follows the manga more closely? Granted, that’s an opinion, but I didn’t watch any FMA outside the first episode or so of the original.

That’s what I thought, the manga was not very far when the anime was airing a couple years back, and went into a complete different storyline. I wonder if they’re ignoring what happened in the anime and connecting the story back to the canon manga. I saw the 1st ep of the 2nd season and a lot of people seem to be still alive. Still have a whole backlog of FMA manga to read..

Does it matter when it’s an original story?

Anyways, I’m interested precisely because it’s NOT an action game. There are lots and lots of action games, adventures, though…

      • Art style for the new series is different. It’s more…cartoony. I just didn’t like it very much…the first ep seemed like total fanservice. Watch it, you’ll know what I mean.

I suppose it’s more cartoonish, but the new anime actually resembles Arakawa’s art style more closely. I think they would tone down the SD during the important scenes later. The only change I don’t like is they changed Roy Mustang’s voice, it was Rufus from FF7 AC before, now it’s Miki Shin’ichirou..

          • Yea, I didn’t like Roy’s silky smooth boy voice. Am I the only one who thought the original anime was better than Arakawa’s story? I loved how the anime explained the existence of Homunculi, changed the relationships between various characters (Roy and Winry in particular) and kept up the suspense until the very end.

I like the original anime so much better than Arakawa’s story
