After nearly ten years Vandal Hearts is getting a new game. Konami is resurrecting their early PsOne/Saturn tactical RPG series for a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game called Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment.

This entry serves as a prequel to the Vandal Hearts series so you won’t have to know who Joshua or Ash are. The story takes place on Sostegaria, the same continent where the first game takes place, with two kingdoms locked into battle. Tobias Martin is the protagonist and in charge of rallying warriors to fight on his side.

Konami has Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment slated to come out on Xbox Live Arcade first sometime in August. A month later the game will be available on PlayStation Network. Sounds like this won’t be the only Vandal Hearts game either. Konami says Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment is “the first next-generation installment” a hint that more downloadable strategy RPGs could be coming in the future.

Wasn't crazy about the sequel but the original game is an old favorite of mine. No one can forget the comically gory "fountains of blood" after each kill.
  • Those fountains of blood were *iconic* - and hilarious.
  • This is the best news I've heard in quite a while. I love you Konami.

Wow, I remember hearing about a Vandal Hearts DS game a long time ago, but it never seemed to materialize. I wonder if this new downloadable game is basically the game they had planned for the DS? In any case, it's certainly interesting. It's nice to see the digital space being used for something other than indie-developed titles and simple puzzle games.
  • I remember the DS game too. Maybe, like you said, it got changed into this. I totally agree it is refreshing to see RPG rebirths instead of puzzle games and PC ports.

Oh god western artist! I will forget this game exist.

Artist? Judging by these screens artists were not involved.

Looks awful. I wonder who's making it?

Honestly, I think I'd have rather had a SOTN-style port of the first game instead.

    Holy shit that looks awful.

I'm not going to say that I love Konami after how badly they messed up Suikoden Tierkreis, but if this is a full SRPG coming to digital distribution, I'll give three cheers to that. Hooray for this stuff not being relegated to the handhelds.

i hope to god it doesn't look like that all thru the game....the art...KONAMI YOUR CRAPPING ON MY CHILDHOOD MEMORY!!!!!

plz don't mess this up >_<

i'll buy it three times if you fix the art
