Magna Carta 2 Declares Release This Year

Magna Carta 2 Declares Release This Year Three years ago Softmax announced Magna Carta 2 was in development for the Xbox 360. Later this year it will finally come out in Japan with Namco Bandai as the publisher.

A scan from Famitsu gives us a look at the hero/heroine combination, but few details about the gameplay. Event scenes are presented differently from Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata. Similar to a Game Boy Advance game or something from Idea Factory static 2D character portraits stacked over the 3D world accentuate facial expressions during character conversations. Magna Carta’s strength was its art and it appears that the sequel does a better job of showcasing it. The trinity ring system, love it or hate it, is out too since the game system is newly established. If you haven’t played the PS2 game think of this as another positive note.

aww the first one was on PS2 why does the second one have to be on XBOX

  • Hello Hello

The PS2 version was almost unplayable, but I'd probably end up buying the sequel anyway to support the JRPG genre on the 360.

  • QBasic

    That's a pretty retarded waste of $60.

“I hated the guts out of Meet The Spartans, but I'll buy the movie to support Friedberg and Seltzer anyhow.”

  • Volcynika

I loved the first one! (I'm not kidding, but I only had a few gripes, WORST FINAL BOSS FIGHTE EVER)

I wonder why it's been in development so long, though! :p

  • Nyanyaan

I can't begin to grasp how that horrid ring combat system — I love the one in shadow hearts btw — ever got past the earliest playtesters. The first MC is like one of 2 rpgs I ended up returning to the store; and I'd even made sure I'd gotten the version with the full artbook and everything else.

Yeah, as a warm-blooded male, I love Hyung-Tae Kim's artwork, and bought the first game solely to support the team, but it was absolutely awful, far worse than I had worst-case-scenario-ed. They'll have to really impress me if they want me to consider giving the second one a chance.

  • Hello Hello

Settle down. Using your standards I could ask you if you support statements like:

“Well this basketball game wasn't very good, so I'll never buy tickets to a sports event ever again.”

  • Askinya

I agree. I love Hyung-Tae Kim's artwork and bought the first game solely to support it.
Hopefully the new system, and the long time of development increased playability of the game.

Will probably buy it anyways though.

  • CleruTesh

If this game is any good, I'll probably buy a 360.
I haven't beaten half of my DS rpg's yet, but I swear, since I beat Persona 4, I have barely turned on my television. 'd be nice to get some use out of that thing.
I never actually played the first one, but man, I need a console jrpg!

  • Strike_Man

    You mean KRPG? ;)

  • EvilAkito

You see, that's the problem with great artwork; it makes you want to like a game regardless of whether or not the game is fun. I've fallen for that trap many times.

I haven't played the PS2 game, but considering all the negativity I hear, I'll safely assume that it sucks. Hopefully this one will actually be good, because great artwork should never go to waste.

  • cj_iwakura

The PS2 game had some serious flaws(mostly stemming from slow gameplay and terrible voice acting), but it had some good points, namely the story, and art/sound design(excluding the horrible US opening).

If the new game adds a fun battle system, this could turn out being really, really good.

  • QBasic

More like “The Lakers been playing like shit for past 3 years. Now I know I won't waste money on 'em.”

And in this case, Lakers = Magna Carta.

  • Hello Hello

Except only one Magna Carta game has been released over here, so you'd be giving up on the Lakers after only one game. This conversation is wandering into the silly realm now, so I'm out.
