Is This Namco Bandai’s New Guncon?

By Spencer . April 24, 2009 . 11:03am

gunc1Scrolling through more patent designs I found this accessory registered by Namco Bandai in Europe on March 9, 2009. The unnamed controller looks like a light gun, but it is different from the Guncons currently on the market.

The analog sticks from the Guncon 3 aren’t in the spec and it has a grip that the Guncon/Guncon 2 doesn’t have. There isn’t a slot for a Wii remote either so we can rule out the possibility of a plastic remote shell.

Most likely this light gun is being made for a new arcade game. There is an off chance this could be an Xbox 360 peripheral, but Namco Bandai would need a light gun game to port over first.

it’d be nice is this were for 2spicy that game looks sweet

    • 2spicy is awesome. I played that so much at the arcades, but since this is Namco Bandai thing that’s doubtful. I think if Sega were to bring 2spicy anywhere it would be the Wii with the Wii balance board as the footpad.

  • Awesome, it’s for Razing Storm, which means it’s getting a console release, great news!

    • Ahh! Now that’s interesting!! Does the gun look bigger or smaller than the Razing Storm gun? It’s hard to tell from the photos, but this could also mean it’s a design doc for the Razing Storm gun out in arcades :(.

      • Shape and design is the same though this one looks a tiny bit more detailed. I took a video at ATEI but didn’t get photos of the gun, here are some screen caps, there’s no doubt that it’s the same gun.

This patent is most likely for a home version as one for the arcade would have been done much earlier.

        • Wow, you’re totally right! I agree a patent should have been done earlier for the gun since Razing Storm came out last year. This was just published in April 2009 so…

But, I don’t want to get my hopes up too much either. It seems strange for Namco Bandai to release a gun just for Raizing Storm. Maybe they were late on submitting? Also they have the Guncon 3 on the market in small numbers. Hmm… Razing Storm Xbox 360 port?
